setuporg Posted December 3, 2024 Share #41 Posted December 3, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Here's my new 2 cents. In the beginning, I was very skeptical about the M11 family, after trying it in a Leica store at launch. I've finally succumbed to the siren call and got the M11-P at its launch, and then M11-D at that one's launch. Then the D SSD has failed and lost photos, and I got rid of it, and as the P was listed for sale because of the D, proceeded with the sale of the P. I'm now back to all the previous generations of M I have, including the paired M9M/P, M60/M246, and M10R/M. Now the M10-R is again the top color M. I find the reliable Leica look soothing and the long tension between the Sony-like IQ and convenience of the USB-C and big battery etc resolved meaningfully and correctly in favor of M10-R. It's almost like a spell is gone, and the quiet, simple and reliable pair of hands is back. I don't have to second-guess whether the better look of M10-R was worth it, there's no temptation of the M11s. I went for more than a year using M11-P/D with internal memory. Now back to the cards, my process is always to write the cards and store them as extra backup, so it also removes the anxiety of accidentally overwriting unimproved photos. Overall, as the old Jewish anecdote goes, bring the goat, remove the goat does the trick! What's also very interesting is the original idea to consider all digital Ms as different kinds of "film" returned, with the Edition 60 shining, the long-deferred idea to use B&W video of the M246 realized and together prompting an interest in an M240, to shoot color video casually while using one M. If you remove the latest, the past becomes more uniform and more useful again. Edited December 3, 2024 by setuporg
