Hi,

Questioning myself...

1)Is files of the SL3 at base ISO, for tripod work, better than the SL2 regarding dynamique range and shadow recovery, if so by how many stop in real life pictures ?

2) i've read that sl3 ibis a bit behind the SL2, high ISO noise is better on the SL3 ... So how does this translate in real world pictures? For exemple, if you Can shoot the SL2 @ 800, but need to push the sl3 @ 1600 ... Then how the files compared ? Does thé files from sl3 @1600 keep an edge over SL2 @ 800 ?

In any case, i'll do my proper testing, but any experienced reply will help ...

Thanks

David

it depends on what shutter speed you are using. long exposure is cleaner on SL3

but in every test, SL3 has a better file, I have noticed recently that SL3 recover highlights much better than SL2

The SL3 files are cleaner, noticeably. 1/2 to a stop better in the shadows maybe. They’re the closest files to a 33x44 sensor I’ve seem.

I see no real world difference in the IBIS between the two cameras. And the numbers don’t seem to compare to other brands either. Both my Sl2 and SL3 are basically the same as my A7R5. Maybe the S5ii is slightly better. The only noticeably better systems I have is the OM-1 and the Hasselblad X2D.

Speaking to noise, when I had the SL2 I didn’t like the way noise was rendered starting at around ISO 3200.  I find the SL3 is almost as good as my SL2-S was in low light and I think you can get very useable images at 12500 and even 25000 in a pinch.  I never would have considered that with my SL2.
