Leica M11 in Gloss Black and Glossy Noctilux Coming?

Conflicted on this one.

On one hand, I'm disappointed the M11 gloss black is based on the M11 and not the M11-P. But at least the gloss black paint and the non-Sapphire LCD screen will both scratch more easily together 🫠

On the other hand, this shows Leica is listening to user feedback. Many of us have long asked for the more elegant finishes on the lenses like gloss black paint to not be limited editions that only a select few ever have a chance to acquire. This puts Leica back into competition (from an availability standpoint not affordability) with third party M lens manufacturers like Voigtlander and Light Lens Lab that offer the more unusual finishes like gloss black.

Regarding the Noct gloss black, Voigtlander has a history of producing gloss black paint over both aluminum and brass. So I don't see the Noct being aluminum as being a deal breaker. That said, I'm much less interested in the lens than the camera.

Thinking I might trade my M11-D for an M11 gloss black. I don't use the internal memory, and I can/will scratch any screen, Sapphire or not.

Screen protectors all you need

I've tried them all, and they never go on right – always a bubble near the edge, then over time they start coming loose. I'd be more inclined to just leave on the factory protector unless they stop using it like they did with the SL3.

Had same issue with various brands,

It seems Expert Shield (glass version) has worked the best for me.

Leica is such a confusing company. I’ve never met a single person that says they want black paint over aluminum. Does anyone want to see aluminum shine through over the years? I don’t.

And the camera is based on the M11 instead of the P which is baffling. Seems like a way to use up old parts. They could have at least soldered in a 256GB storage chip.

Overall these seem like decisions made by someone that doesn’t understand the customer very well.

I like the Expert Shield matt finish, but they are all good.

The secret is to install the screen protector in the bathroom just after someone has had a shower. And don't wear a wooly jersey

I do not think the new 'paint' will wear like the old.

I'm looking forward to the first person on this forum that tries to manually brass their new M11 black paint and lens so we can find out. The M11 says it will brass. I can't imagine they used different paint on the lens and body. So I expect the lens to show aluminum if properly used.

There was a rumor that the 50/1.2 BP will only be available in 100 units.

Per Leica Miami's email, it's "standard production". Of course that doesn't stop Leica from later releasing a brass version.

I don;t think this rumour has any of truth in it.

My dealer has 12 copies ready to be shipped tomorrow. I turned it down anyway. It's like the silver version but in black, nothing exciting for me.

It's even worse, the silver version is brass, and this crap is aluminum.

The cynic in me says they released this earlier in the cycle to have a larger window to shift leftover m11’s before the m12 gen. There is no better way to shift a standard m11 now at retail than to make it black paint.
