I tried the 28mm for two weeks before finally going with the 43mm (I've only used a 50mm for more than 15 years on a Nikon D700, which might explain why ;)). I'm not a pro, but I find both lenses incredible. I just find the 28mm tricky to use… too much space, too much emptiness, even more harder to use in portrait format for me... But that's probably just me not knowing how to use it 😀

I might just have to sell my X100VI and pick up the 43. I already have a Q3 28 but there are a lot of times when I wish I had a bit extra reach. I don't think one is better than the other-I wouldn't compare my Gfx 30mm lens to my Gfx 55mm lens on the same body for any educational reason-they each serve a purpose. Those choosing one over the other will be because the majority of their shooting style focuses on images taken at one focal length more than the other. I would love to have the 43mm APO, but I would certainly not get rid of my 28mm.

The 43 as a single, fixed lens is too limiting for me as a carry-around camera.  I find the 28 is very flexible.  I wouldn't carry two cameras in normal travel situations (Africa photo safari was an exception. I carried two DSLRs, one with a short zoom and the other with a long zoom). For typical use, if I absolutely needed full resolution (no/minimal cropping) of photos, I'd carry an interchangeable-lens camera and whatever lenses I wanted.  In my case, I would carry my M10R w/28 mounted and 50 in my pocket rather than have a couple of Qs hanging around my neck.

Of course, if your preferred method of shooting better suits the 43, then that is the camera to select over the 28.  I went through a lot of my Leica M photos - both film and digital- some years ago and found that the majority of those I thought were pretty good were taken with a 28mm lens.  Around 55% were taken with the 28, approx 40% with the 50, the rest with a 90.  I have 21 and 35 lenses but none of my "preferred" pics were shot with either one.  That surprised me, considering that many folks consider a 35mm as THE M-camera lens.  Just goes to show that the "best" lens is the one YOU like, not the one somebody else likes!

Also, choose a lens best on what it produces for you, not what any specs indicate.  We don't see images by reading specs; we see images by looking at the image.

Apart from one ultra-wide and one short-tele all of my other lenses (seven in total) are between 40mm to 58mm and all are used for different purposes.

No guesses then which Q3 I chose and has become my most used camera/lens combination.

I've thought about this a bit recently since Fuji just announced the GFX100RF, which has a 40mm equivalent lens on a larger 100Mpixel sensor. That and the Leica Q3 43 both appeal to me a lot—I spent many years relying on my Rollei 35S with its Sonnar 40mm f/2.8 as my only camera on travel and walking about; and any of the Leica Ms fitted with the Pentax-L 43mm f/1.9 Special makes a near perfect, use for anything camera for my eyes.

There's some appeal to me of the Fuji's big sensor with respect to DoF control capability, and then there's the lighter/smaller/faster 35mm FF Q3. I can't commit between them as yet, so I'll just enjoy using the 43mm lens I have on one or another of my M bodies...

But with respect to Q3 or Q3 43, I'm positive that the Q3 43 would suit me better. :D

The 100RF full frame equivalent is ~28mm.

Ah, thank you! I got my wires crossed as I was comparing the 100RF specs with my Makina 67 ... The latter has the 40mm equivalent lens. Doh!
