jaapv Posted November 4, 2024 Share #1 Posted November 4, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) S5ii, Sigma 28-70 The original Livingstonia Mission (named in honour of David Livingstone) was established at Cape Maclear in 1875 but due to the high number of malaria fatalities it was relocated to Bandawe in 1881. However, Malaria proved to be just as deadly here and eventually Dr. Robert Laws decided to move the mission away from the lakeshore. The mission was then established at Livingstonia in 1894. Old Bandawe Church is still in function. In 1924, Kenneth Kaunda was baptized here. The Missionary Graveyard is a poignant place; The names and dates on the graves tell the story - The young missionaries, many of them doctors, went here with their wives and were buried within a few years, together with their family.
