Alberti Posted October 29, 2024 Share #1 Posted October 29, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am a long term C1 user. But I have alays a problem. In C1 the output can be set with sliders, and that is very convenient it seems. Yuo can set it anywhere. But no defaults. In LR there is the easy peasy option: sharpen for screen / for matte paper / for glossy. But not for me. because I cannot and will not investigate how to set the sliders. On the C1 help the advise is to make several prints with 10% to 50% and see which prints you like. That advise is very client-unfriendly. It leaves me in the dark. I am making a photo-book/glossy prints now. But the preview with the 'current setting' (the last tweaked one) does not look good on screen. [I have no such problem with LR in the publ. app] Well, if C1 does not give clear advice and easy settings; while I found no clear topic with solutions (yes, tips) in the C1-Help: is there a simple proven table how to set it? [Like said I wont experiment.]

Maarten Posted October 29, 2024 Share #2 Posted October 29, 2024 I’ve done several photo books with glossy (photo paper) prints and always used the standard sharpening setting in C1, meaning I never played with the sharpening. The A4 photo books with some double page A3 prints always look good. That’s the information I can help you with.

[Like said I wont experiment.] I wonder if the printer (publisher) doesn’t provide recommendations for the preparation of images based upon their equipment and the client’s selection of paper, etc.? jaapv Posted November 6, 2024 Share #4 Posted November 6, 2024 Output sharpening isa bit of a science. The width of the sharpening haloes can be calculated from the paper size and printer resolution. That is the reason that C1 uses sliders instead of presets Bruce Fraser wrote the ultimate book: https://www.amazon.com/World-Sharpening-Photoshop-Camera-Lightroom/dp/0321637550?dplnkId=a6057a56-b6a3-4998-932e-3d22de2b9bde&nodl=1 However most of us rely on experience and just eyeball it. Richardgb Posted November 7, 2024 Share #5 Posted November 7, 2024 IIRC (I don't have C1 open ATM), the preferred amount of sharpening can be set as a default in C1. If you needed to deviate for different scenarios, wouldn't a checklist on a piece of paper suffice to tell you what to use?
