nicci78 Posted October 20, 2024 Share #1 Posted October 20, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) https://asobinet.com/patent-application-for-an-optical-system-that-is-very-similar-to-the-lens-on-the-panasonic-leica-q3-43/ Just like the previous Summilux-Q 28mm f/1,7 the 43mm variant is also designed by Panasonic. Actually Panasonic has designed every OIS lenses of Leica like the Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-90 & 90-280mm f/2,8-4 It is just FYI. They are all made in Portugal then assembled in Germany with Japanese tech.
Advertisement Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Hi nicci78, Take a look here Summilux-Q 43mm f/2 design by Panasonic. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
SrMi Posted October 20, 2024 Share #2 Posted October 20, 2024 I would differentiate between a patent and a design, as the latter involves lens production specifications not described in the patent. You cannot feed a patent into the "Japanese tech," and the lens comes out . 8 minutes ago, nicci78 said: They are all made in Portugal then assembled in Germany If a lens is assembled in Germany, it is not made in Portugal. Like most Leica products, those lenses probably contain parts made in Portugal.
Simone_DF Posted October 20, 2024 Share #3 Posted October 20, 2024 Companies patent tech all the time, because in the long run it’s profitable, but it doesn’t mean that they can or will produce something. If my company sells city scooters, but I have a great idea for a race motorcycle, I will still patent it because it will prevent others from stealing my idea, but that doesn’t mean my company will actually build it, because of various reasons, like product not being part of my core market, cost too high, etc. However, a race focused company can come to us and say “hey, we really like that, can you license it to us?” And make a product that is 100% the vision of that company, because implementation is what really matters in the end. This is literally product development 101.
Olaf_ZG Posted October 20, 2024 Share #4 Posted October 20, 2024 Off to patent the new summilux 66, as it is said this will be the next iteration of the Q. 😎🤪
Ray Vonn Posted October 20, 2024 Share #5 Posted October 20, 2024 Yes, currently Panasonic and Leica are inextricably linked and have been for some time which I can see is reflected in the products issued by Leica. If this forum is a reflection of the popularity of the Q43, then it's a partnership that's worked out well.
Tseg Posted October 20, 2024 Share #6 Posted October 20, 2024 ... And somehow the dry cappuccino I am currently drinking, made from a LaMarzocco Micra, that is owned by appliance mass-producer De'Longhi, is still amazing, as is the experience producing this cappuccino.
