I hope they have the AF speed modulated properly, as it would suck if the adapter killed the AF motors in the S lenses (particularly unmodified ones). It is my understanding that the S adapter L only provides AF with S lenses on SL bodies because they are concerned about third parties causing problems. For example, if Panasonic were to crank up the AF speed on their bodies, that might increase the rate of failure of the lenses, which of course would be a service headache for Leica when they have almost zero service capacity remaining.

To be safe, never use third party AF lens adapter. I.e. , the adapter without the authorization of both the lens and the camera. Adapter through unauthorized reverse engineering is no no.

If you like adventure, then at  least check the power system to make sure at least, they have the same voltage.

Secondly, check loading of the lens (components) with respect to the camera’s driver algorithm, make sure it would not over drive.

This is a very big deal. I only need aperture control. AF on S is super slow anyway.
I bought and sold GFX100Ii, menu is a disaster if you want to mix and match OEM and manual lenses, but if I use it for S only, I can tailor the camera just for S, then I don’t need touch menu and UI.

S glass is really the best with generous sensor coverage. This is one of the biggest reason I love them.

Be aware that GFX power system is 10.8v while Leica S is 7.3v.

Even if you do not use AF, once they are connected, somewhere needs to regulate the voltage, otherwise, the Leica S side will experience over drive.

Check the adapter, see if it has proper voltage regulator.

I have used Contax 645 to GFX adapter. It burnt the first connected Contax 645 lens. That drove me to bite the bullet to get Leica S. Both adapter and GFX are returned immediately.

All valid points. Thank you.

The person who told me about the adapter is as pictured. Whether his details are true or not I just don't know. I've asked him about the voltage of the adapter. I'll report back if he replies.

Since you know him well, just ask him about the voltage matching details, better yet, publish the official specs. It would help many people interested in this route.

DC Voltage business is only the first step, to fully validate his adapter, we also need to know how he dealt with the loading variations of different lenses, bow to avoid over drive in the AC sense.

If he replies to my question about the voltage of the adapter I'll ask further questions. I did offer to beta test an adapter for him! (I wouldn't test it on my 30-90mm but on my 70mm CS)

Pictured is the response that I got. Any further questions (bearing in mind that English isn't his first language so nothing too 'wordy')?

I'd like to know of there will be a AF/MF switch so that the user can decide whether to use it purely to change the aperture. I've pre-set my 30-90mm to f11 and use it on a dumb adapter, but it would be nice to not have to go through that process just to change the aperture.

In cases like this, rich user’s or firmware programmability sounds like lack of confidence.

But it is good to let him understand the problems and complexity. For other lenses, such as contex 645 or Hasselblad h, people might reverse engineering Leica S adapter, but that cannot cover the algorithms built in the camera. Besides, what works for contex lens not necessary for Leica S.

Glad someone willing to step in to make things like this. Wish him good luck and success.

Are we sure it's not all a fake? There is nothing on Google about it, not even a rumor, I think that if it's due for release in November, Kipon would have heavily announced it (or at least done some "targeted leaks") in order to create some real traction/expectation.

The only place I've actually read about it is here, so let's hope it's really legit, for now I remain skeptical..

All rumors are paid ads. for a product like this that has small market value probably does not justify the rumor.

I'll ask him if he's fake. 😶 I guess all rumours have to start somewhere..!

I found over 2K mount adapter on B&H web site. Kipon alone has over 400.  As far as I can remember, not many of them has been announced, may be none.

But if Leica or Fujifilm is going to offer such things, I am sure there will be announcement, and perhaps starts with "rumor".

His reply: "normally we have a button to shift from AF to MF"

If the guy is the head of Kipon, he probably knows more about adapters than anyone here, so I am inclined to hear him out, haha. One hopes that their engineering team is aware of the potential issues, but of course I would not want to be the one to test it with my favorite S lens. I am inclined to agree with ZHNL that having aperture actuation is enough. Just being able to have metering info transmitted and the lens aperture electronically controlled would be a huge win. I might even consider getting a used GFX to use with my S lenses.

The ‘best’ feature of GFX (or SL2/3) when using S-lenses is the electronic shutter. The existing S-bodies are great, and the mirror is damped (particularly on S3), but eliminating the mirror-movement hughlights the very high resolution of the S-lenses. So a mirrorless S-body is welcome (and closing the eyes for the price tag, for the time being).

Some examples from back in the days with S-lenses on GFX100S (with some additional examples further down in the thread):

I sold two Fuji GFXs, the first 100, and the first 50s to buy the 100. I loved the 50 but never liked the 100.

I think the color science of Leica -and also that of the Hassie 100- is better -or I like it better- than Fuji’s, so would not buy one again. But I sincerely believe that adapting successfully S lenses will greatly improve the GFX experience. And, although that is to be seen, I think the S lenses can handle well the 102 MP. So welcome the Kipon adapter!

Indeed they can. My 30-90mm @ 90mm was remarkably sharp (using a dumb adapter). The 120mm, for one, should be particularly stellar.
