Bryseph Posted October 3, 2024 Share #1  Posted October 3, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all. The the right side of the curtain on my M4 seems to have pulled out from the metal curtain tab. Does anyone know if this is fixable?  I can move the tab out and slip the curtain back in, but obviously it just slips back out again because nothing is securing it. Was it originally held together with glue or was it just crimped down between the metal?  Thanks in advance for any help! Welcome, dear visitor! erl Posted October 4, 2024 Share #2 Â Posted October 4, 2024 Get it properly serviced by a camera mechanic. It will cost you, but a number of other factors will also be checked. Worth the cost just to be able to rely on the camera.
martin Posted October 4, 2024 Share #3  Posted October 4, 2024 you'll need new curtains and an CLA, about 400 € but then the camera is again a great tool
Pyrogallol Posted October 4, 2024 Share #4 Â Posted October 4, 2024 The same thing happened to my M4. The late Peter Grisaffi, Leica specialist, said that the metal ends were only crimped on and after 50+ years pulled off. He glued mine back on as well as crimpling them on. jerzy Posted October 4, 2024 Share #5  Posted October 4, 2024 yes, they are crimped only. It is possible to repair your curtain but it needs to be taken ou, shutter needs to be disassembled. Then you need to bent the metal bar to make more spce for the curtain, push it in completly and crim again. It may be additional glued as Pyrogallol mentioned. Crimping back is not so easy due to "labirytnth" visible on backside. And what is very important is to keep 90 degree between the bar and longer edge of curtain, otherwise slit width will not be constant (and exposure). Curtains are avaliable as spare parts, it is cheaper to get it replaced. Unless you have skills and tools to do it by yourself Welcome, dear visitor!
