Backing up data and files for 2008

I just stumbled over some economical harddrives for backup today. It's LaCie and USB only. It takes forever to transfer data (like 4-6 hours for 250 GB data), so it's for backup and then you disconnect them and store them on a shelf.

You CAN have them connected at all times for automatic backup even there's only ONE USB on the back. Just connect a series of them via a USB hub and you have them all on your desktop.

But mine are for backup and then storage in another location. The size and shape is actually perfect for storage in a book shelf in another location, the shape and size also make them easy to have in a bag.

Backing up is a good feeling. And I gave up DVD long time ago. Too slow and too expensive.

Yes, I too have abandonned burning DVD´s in favour of external HD´s; it´s cheaper per GB.

However, having one enclosure per HD is a bit wasteful, plus they are more bulky than "naked" HD´s.

I bought a package with a power supply plus a SATA-to-USB2 adapter (it does handle IDE´s too, but I never buy new IDE´s now). Just connect everything according to instructions, and copy whatever needs to be backed-up. Then remove the HD, wrap it up in the bag/enclosure it came in (don´t touch the circuit board on the bottom), and stack them in a safe or whatever.
