Advertisement Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 Hi LocalHero1953, Take a look here Q3 43 is the proof that we need a QL now. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

LocalHero1953 Posted October 9, 2024 Share #63 Posted October 9, 2024 FWIW I heard from He Who Must Not Be Named, before he was kicked off the forum for the fifth time, that it will be a new 24mp sensor. Believe it or not!

Highly unlikely. But go ahead and trust the guys who borrow from every site, or a certain promoter of ventilated lens hoods if you prefer. No skin off my nose. I don't need to trust anyone - it's all speculation, and I don't have a website to support or a reputation to defend. But I know I won't be buying a SL3-S with a Q2 sensor, unless they transform it out of all recognition.

Why would Leica use a sensor that is worse than the one in SL2-S (except resolution) and is confined to DFD instead of PDAF? Instead, SL3-S will probably have a similar sensor as S5II.
Le Chef Posted October 9, 2024 Share #67 Posted October 9, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Personally I don’t know why you would bother with an SL3-S at 24MP when you can have a LUMIX S5II with PDAF at a fraction of the price. Leica have to aim higher; after the SL2-S has been discontinued, which current Leica model uses that 24MP sensor?

I will take Mike over any of the YouTube yahoos, and “Like-another-false-rumor” https://www.macfilos.com/2024/10/03/leica-sl3-s-odds-on-favourite-is-now-a-step-closer/ Mike writes in the first paragraph that he does not believe it will be a 47MP sensor. Later he writes it will be 47MP. Mike obviously changed his mind after the initial and baseless 47MP speculation (see comments to the article).

It’s why I don’t look for advice from others on what camera to buy. In this case, I am content for the moment with the SL2-S, which I bought years before the S5ii arrived. The improvements I might look for are neither resolution nor the perennial AF but better low light performance. But thank you for your concern. Le Chef Posted October 9, 2024 Share #71 Posted October 9, 2024 “You” means the generic “One”. I have no interest in how you choose what to buy.

SL3-S with Q2 sensor would be… the former SL2 which has it !! You are also saying that you aren’t interested into SL unless it is 50% smaller. QL would be exactly your dream come true. nicci78 Posted October 10, 2024 Author Share #77 Posted October 10, 2024 (edited) However an SL3-S with around 47MP is highly possible with a stacked sensor. Which has around 45MP in Nikon Z8. Another step to a QL without mechanical shutter with a stacked sensor. Edited October 10, 2024 by nicci78

As a ex owner of a SL2-S and currently of a S5II, there are significant differences between the two. The SL is a more premium camera. The build quality is better, it is weather sealed, the EVF is better, M lenses perform better. The S5 is lighter, has more features like e.g. hand held multi shot or native support for anamorphic lenses, has a flip screen, and better flash support. Controls are also different. I’m a bit torn here. The SL is more menu heavy, the S5 has more physical controls, but they are really well laid out and intuitive. I’m happy with both, but it comes down as personal preference. The S5II is an excellent camera, for 1800-1900€ it’s a no brainer, but I can see why others may prefer the Leica variant at 2x the price. If the SL2-S drops to 1200-1300€, I’ll buy it again to use it with M lenses
Moleicaplease Posted October 16, 2024 Share #80 Posted October 16, 2024 Hi there everyone, I'm a frequent lurker on this forum. This is my first time posting a message. I thought I should offer my 2 cents regarding the topic of a new compact Leica camera with EVF. What's stopping Leica from releasing a Leica SL3-C? (C for compact) Then there can be three options for L mount with all three models offering different flavors of an L mount hybrid camera: The flagship hybrid SLR body - Leica SL3 The fast, low light hybrid SLR body - SL3-S The small, entry level rangefinder style hybrid body - SL3-C The SL3-C would be the goldilocks body in the Leica SL range. Essentially, it would be a spiritual successor to the discontinued Leica CL and it would fulfil the need for a Leica M with an EVF as it could come bundled with a Leica M to Leica L mount adapter. It would be a camera that's good enough for enthusiast to semi-professional work but also light enough to carry around everywhere. The advantage over the Q series would be the ability to choose the lens you pair it with. Although a compact sets of lenses would need to be bundled up with the SL3-C because the regular SL lenses are HUGE! Leica, what are you waiting for, make the SL3-C a reality for us already! To be honest, I wouldn't mind if Leica released the SL3-C without new compact primes. They could just do a new camera promo deal with Sigma where people are given a choice of buying the Leica SL3-C with one or several of the compact Sigma L mount contemporary lenses in a single bundled up package. This would solve the need to develop new compact L mount lenses! I feel the public would warm up nicely to this SL variant, partnered with the Sigma contemporary lenses, this would be a slamdunk! But who knows, maybe I'm wrong.
