Robert Blanko Posted September 29, 2024 Share #1 Â Posted September 29, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know the general discussion and purpose of hybrid shutter for the "normal" M11. But for the M11-D this option seems to feel rather odd to me. You press the shutter button and nothing seems to happen, as you do not hear any sound and cannot quickly check the foto. Or does the user get some kind of immediate feedback that a photo has been taken? How to distinguish this from a malfunction / freezing? Maybe via displaying the photo counter in the rangefinder window? That's why I'm so far inclined to deactivate the hybrid shutter option of my M11-D. The scenarios where the hybrid option applies would be very rare in practice, anyway. (Irrespective thereof, I prefer to have control about avoiding unwanted rolling-shutter effects. Thus, activating the hybrid shutter option only in scenarios where it is explicitly intended, seems to be the way to go for me). I would be curious about your settings / strategy in said respect. Smudgerer Posted September 29, 2024 Share #2 Â Posted September 29, 2024 Good point / question..........I just use the regular shutter option, turn off the electronic / hybrid choice entirely.
M11 for me Posted September 29, 2024 Share #3 Â Posted September 29, 2024 Or you have your connection to Leica Fotos to check your images. There is no other way.
maxpower Posted September 29, 2024 Share #4  Posted September 29, 2024 Just like the regular M11 the feedback is a red - - - in your viewfinder when you take a photo, I believe it also does this for the mechanical shutter actually but then of course you have the sound of the shutter. 1
Derbyshire Man Posted September 29, 2024 Share #5  Posted September 29, 2024 On the M11 series it’s obvious when the shutter speed is >8000th. On the M11D, rather than have the option to set the time (needed twice per year) I’d rather be able to flip between shutter type.
elmars Posted September 29, 2024 Share #6  Posted September 29, 2024 You can feel a slight resistance when you press the shutter release button. This is now enough for me (I had to get used to it) as feedback for the shutter release.

I never paid attention to said detail, but I just checked: Both with mechanical and electronical shutter the "----" appears for a moment. Depending on the size of your memory/taken photos, the counter of remaining photos will not help as alternative, as it just stays at "9999". On top of that, you would have to memorize what was the last value...

If so, I think this would not help, as just as in the phase of starting the camera, you can full-press, but nevertheless no photo will be taken during the first about 2-3 seconds... Thus, no confirmation whether the camera "obeyed" the shutter release command.

Once I learned this about the regular M11, it made sense. @Robert Blanko, there really is no difference between the M11 and M11-D with regard to the electronic shutter for those of us who kept image review turned off. Isn't that most of us? Leica probably would have added a digital shutter sound if the M11s had a speaker, which they don't. I would expect in the M12, we will get a stacked 45-50mp sensor without a physical shutter. If so, I hope they add some sort of internal physical device that simulates the traditional shutter sound that can be turned off or on in the menu. Having a digital sound from a speaker would be disappointing unless they combine it with Apple-style haptic feedback to the shutter button.
