Willi J. I wonder if the hybrid-AF of the SL3 would work better in these situations. Does anybody have any experience (SL3 vs SL2)? Thank you for your advice. I wonder if the hybrid-AF of the SL3 would work better in these situations. Does anybody have any experience (SL3 vs SL2)? Thank you for your advice.   I was out in it last week. It's not just the SL3 camera that has difficulties rendering fog. Note, I said rendering fog as I don't think any focusing system can focus on fog. One must focus on a building or structural point coming from the fog. I find that digital cameras "see through" fog to an extent and the fog is never as thick or represented that well on digital sensors. The scene in this image was inundated with thick fog and more so in the near distance but the image seems clear of any effect. The lens here is Leica SVE 14-24 which would have a relatively close to infinity focusing point and therefore anything guaranteed to be sharp after about ten meters. It's a bit frustrating that my experience of the fog is not matched by good Leica sensor on the SL3. The same goes for the SL2S which I also use in this fog albeit with a 90 mm telephoto. I was trying hard to "get the fog" but  the camera "tries to see through" the fog.   Welcome, dear visitor! Paul2660 Posted September 28, 2024 Share #3  Posted September 28, 2024 Still a nice shot. You captured the scene very nicely.  I agree fog can be problematic for AF and capture.  Paul

Ken Abrahams Posted September 28, 2024 Share #5  Posted September 28, 2024 (edited) Great shots of the fog, or are they low flying clouds? 😀 I know how to make fog from stock cloud photos. It’s amazing how it rolls through and quite quickly in my area. Can’t dilly daddle about! best Ken Edited September 28, 2024 by Ken Abrahams

The autofocus of my SL2 does not work in situations like this one. I have to resort to manual focusing. The autofocus of my other DSLRs, e.g. Nikon D850, was always spot on. Would the SL3 (hybrid-AF) be an improvement over the SL2? Thanks. Welcome, dear visitor! Ken Abrahams Posted September 29, 2024 Share #11  Posted September 29, 2024 (edited) Leica AF lenses and SL3 can focus on rain okay, mainly because rain has some contrast "in it" and is liquid where as fog is more like a gas. Its water particles too small to isolate for the lens and sensor to capture well, unless at a distance where the fog is dense and takes on colours and brightness of its location and the fog The 90-280 will focus on rain quite well and sometimes to the deficit of the subject if they're in the rain.  I have some great rural landscapes with fog but taken with Fuji X100 in 2012. This one at a Dwelllingup orchard. Maybe a photo thread for fotos of fog will work?   Welcome, dear visitor! Ken Abrahams Posted September 29, 2024 Share #12 Â Posted September 29, 2024 Well it seemed like such a good topic, why not start an image thread for Foggy Photos?

It is not optimal (yet?)
