Just a joke I'd say. UK police would often ask to see driving licence if not properly displayed in windscreen but might be daunted if car was a magnificent Bentley. (No longer a requirement now, I believe.)

They could be bloody-minded: I was once driving on a major road and licence came unstuck from window. A passing patrol car flagged me down and asked why my current licence was not properly showing. Then I was asked for insurance certificate (which surely no-on carries with them!). Had to report to a police station the next morning and show document.
