Long awaited: Leica Q3 43 with APO-Summicron 43mm f/2 ASPH.

Good morning all, could some kind soul please let me know if there is an alternative eyepiece available for the Q3 and Q3 43? I'm hoping for an eyepiece that would cut out extraneous light.

I'm also looking for suggestions for an L-bracket with an Arca-Swiss fitting plate.

Do these thing exist?

And yes, if the camera specs are right, I would even consider the colors you suggested, @cirke. Might be a good conversation starter to break the ice while taking pictures of strangers.

- I have some external SD disk since 10 years and there are still working,  Hasselblad targets pro photographers therefore I guess that internal memory up to 1TB is very reliable

- to me the main things are not specs at all as all cameras nowadays do the job perfectly , even an  iPhone

I just have a very simple pragmatic view on this topic:

I would never rely on an internal memory alone. In the M11 I use it only as a backup. On my Mac I have my clone-SSD.

The redundancy of two systems reduces the probability of crashes. 

So I would appreciate a 2nd SD-Slot as well, but I think this is unrealistic to be integrated into the Q's body design whereas an internal memory is a more realistic solution.

Re L plate with Arca Swiss plate if you don’t need the full L plate and can settle for Arca Swiss base plate I high recommend the Lim Design half case. 

It adds very little bulk to the camera, offers excellent grip, has built in very discrete Arca Swiss base plate, easy access to battery compartment, looks great and is reasonably priced considering quality and features.

I’ve owned RRS plates, other half cases, Leica grips etc and have found the LIM to be by far the best all in one solution.

This is why I could never rely on a Q camera as primary camera for a professional shoot. And why I switched from Canon (single CF card) to Sony (redundant SD cards,) I had a bad week waiting for a data recovery company to do their magic (at my expense.) I still worked for that client for a couple more years, but the experience tarnished our relationship.

Apologies. I stand corrected the recent order I placed (two weeks ago ) was with South Korean Ebay vendor.

Delivery was via FedEx and faster than quoted at checkout.

This is third LIM half case I’ve purchased. You won’t be disappointed.

It's a missing feature that you think is important for your purposes rather than "a flaw", surely?  It's not a defect, it was a design decision.

It surely depends on the use case. In a studio setup tethered shooting might be another option to minimize the risk of losing shots.

A decision made in times (the beginning of the Q2-Project) when lots of cameras (also Leicas except the S) followed the same single-SD design. 
So nothing special and no surprise but something that should have been changed.

Faster writing/reading speed, more reliable than external cards. Internal storage, especially if of good quality, is actually less prone to corruption compared to external sources. The deterioration problems you mention is mostly a thing of the past. Deterioration can occur if a SSD is full over 90% of capacity and operated in that state for a prolonged period of time, meaning months, which is not the use case for photographers I think. 

I suspect the reason why only the M11 has SSD is because the M doesn’t record video. A SSD is a source of heat you need to dissipate, add video recording at the same time and you have a recipe for an overheating camera. The small form factor of the Q doesn’t facilitate dissipation either.

Imho the best of both worlds is internal storage + 1 card slot.

Thank you Leica for producing the new Q3 43.  For me as an photo enthusiast for over 40 years, I am looking forward to daily carry, family and travel photography with my new Q3 43 APO Summicron which has all the features I want and need.  

FWIW I never had large internal storage and never missed it.  I do use a fast V90 SD card for occasions when I take a a bunch of high FPS shots.  I don't see this as a flaw, just a design choice by Leica for the Q line of cameras.  lf that is an important feature, choose a different model.

It seems the South Korean eBay vendor is now out of stock. Have emailed them to see if they will be getting more.

Any pro relying on one camera only is dumb. Cards can fail, cameras can fail, lenses fail, lights fail. 
 

I wouldn’t rely on ONE q, but with a backup, I would.

100% in agreement with this. I don't care if there are multiple card slots. The key is don't use high capacity memory cards where you have all of your photos stored in one location. Have multiple cameras with multiple cards.

The shoot I was referring to was video, the card that failed was the primary camera. I see your pov, but after being burned once, I still wouldn’t use a single card slot camera for a pro shoot, video or stills. For video now I use a 2 card camera *and* an external recorder if possible. The trouble is you don’t know if a card has failed until possibly after a non-reproducible moment has passed. I have had an SD card fail on a stills shoot, but on a camera with a second card, so no issue.

I received one of those last week, and I returned it.

It's well made, fits well and gives good grip.

What I did not like:

• When you're holding the camera with the grip, the index finger is always looking for the shutter release button about 1cm to the front of the actual button. That may be a personal issue, but it was a non-starter for me.
• I have a wrist strap with a lug ring ( https://rocknrollstraps.com/shop/camera-wrist-straps/silky-wrist-straps/silky-wrist-strap-orange/ ) which I can not easily attach because the grip changes the typ of mount for a strap.
