There's very very little info about such details of European business protocol requirements in the daily press as it is not deemed to be particularly significant or noteworthy to average US folks living in California, et al. When I saw it mentioned this morning, on this thread, I looked to see what the mandate was about. It took about a half hour to discover it on BBC News/UK and one other small business journal based in the USA. (I only read English fluently so I didn't look through French, Spanish, German, Italian news media....) So it should not be a surprise that most US residents would have heard very little about it, despite that for big companies like Apple it presents another general PITA. 🙄 G "Under Rock Dweller Extraordinaire" If you are ever moved to read EU legislation in the original (and I can understand and sympathise if you would rather not), it is available in official English here. Despite Brexit, English remains an official language of the EU (because of Ireland & Malta), so all legislation is published i.a. in English. The multilingual EU supports an ecosystem of interpreters and translators, and specific linguistic regulations - someone could write a book on it. Disclosure: my daughter is an interpreter for the EU Parliament, Commission, Council and, occasionally, Courts of Justice (and a steady source of entertaining stories about well known politicians).

Guess they live under a rock. I'm amazed that you find it amazing. Why do you think everyone would know about this? I live in Europe, read the news daily, and regularly work with lobbyists to review proposed technology related EU legislation, and I hadn't heard about it until today either. 3
algrove Posted September 27, 2024 Share #89 Posted September 27, 2024 (edited) Well, I don't live in the EU and I heard about it over a year ago when Apple had a problem with the new legislation. If you had not heard of it until today then you were living under a rock since you admit it is your best interests to know about these kinds of changes. Even buying a phone these days, none now come with chargers. Apple's new iPhone is now the 16 model and this has been going on with Apple iPhones now since model 14. I’ve got my Q3 and have been on the Miami waiting list for the SL3 since ten minutes after its release in March. Yes the 43 might be a bit more useful than the 28 but to attempt a trade of the Q3 to the now nearly $7000US Q3-43, I would take a substantial financial loss. For what? Honestly mostly the endorphins involved. The Q3 is amazing and I get what the 43 offers if I take a few steps forward. As to the interminable SL3 wait, I’m producing great pictures with my SL2-S. I have to step off the Leica buy-trade depreciation train. It's a lot less of a depreciation than most other camera brands, but true. I traded my silver 50 APO (I never used it) for my M10M, and traded my M10-R and Q2M for my M11-P and still paid some cash. I miss my Q2M, and would love a Q3 43 monochrom! But seeing that this is likely not in the cards for some time... I have decided that at this point, to retain the most value I am only getting somewhat-special editions that are usable (like the Q2M, my Leitz Wezlar M10-M, and M11-P) and then catch all cameras like the SL2-S. This isn't to say right out of the box cameras aren't excellent! It's just economics. For example, the M10-M on release was $8,295, on the used market a regular M10-M is $5,500ish and the "Leitz-Wezlar" edition of the same camera is $7,500ish! The M11 is new $8995 and used is $7,100ish. Where as the M11-P is just $200 more and used stays very close to list price. My M240 "100 edition" still goes for $3,000ish while a M240 is around $500 cheaper. The worst and most immediate depreciation was my S, then my SL 601! The SL2 had similar depreciation (but I had gotten mine used). See the trend? If something is a workhorse, factory version of the camera, the depreciation is more pronounced. If you just pay a little more for one of the "special editions" (often just cosmetic, or in the case of the M-D, M10-D and M11-D a serious physical difference) you get the camera you want and have a resale/upgrade that is much much better later down the line. I always say, "this is all I need, this is the last one." It never is. I'd rather know what I am getting is coveted. Although ALL our Leicas are coveted. I predict Leica will make MANY Q3 43, and this means in a year or so the used value will wane. We all typically keep our cameras really nice. If Leica makes this in a "cheap" special edition, like a Q3 43-P or something, then its worth the purchase.

I was holding the 43, and another person standing just beside me holding the 28. Both of us touch focus the same subject on the lcd. I requested to repeat the test outdoors. The result is the same. 43 will always have higher iso than 28, at same aperture and speed. Thus I’m puzzled.

Well, multi-field on the Q3 presumably includes a broader field than multi-field on the 43. I wonder if spot metering (or a bit bigger, on same subject) would yield the same ISO.
