Fabulous photo of what's probably not the alpha silverback of his family.  We visited mountain gorillas in Uganda and Rwanda but were not brave enough to go to the DRC.  That's unfortunate since the DRC has the only bonobos on Earth.  In the Republic of Congo, we visited families of western lowland gorillas.

Thanks Stuart, Sadly DRC Virunga National Park has been closed for a while now due to ongoing fighting and the presence of militia groups, even the park rangers have had very little access. Local trained civilians monitor the mountain gorilla groups at the moment, amazingly despite all the madness there have been 10 new births this year. Over the years I spent time at the park HQ, when unable to travel on the road due to fighting. Will never forget how in the night if gunfire broke out, the chimpanzee groups would scream in terror.

Have you watched the Netflix documentary 'Virunga?'

Phil
