newtoleica Posted September 21, 2024 Share #1 Posted September 21, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I had an M Monochrom back in the day but haven’t used a mono for more than 10 years. I agonised over whether it would have the same impact on me as the MM did compared to M9 conversions. In the summer I managed to get one in the EU about 20% cheaper than in the UK, and better condition. The results are just amazing. Been a long time since I downloaded a set of images and felt so excited. 😁😁😁 Edited September 21, 2024 by newtoleica 10
Advertisement Posted September 21, 2024 Posted September 21, 2024 Hi newtoleica, Take a look here Just loving my new M10-M….. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
AceVentura1986 Posted September 22, 2024 Share #2 Posted September 22, 2024 Congrats. It’s a great camera. I used the M9M for ten years and traded it in for an M10M in December, 2023. IMHO, it is truly much, much better than the M9M in every respect.
DadDadDaddyo Posted September 25, 2024 Share #3 Posted September 25, 2024 M10M and M11M are absolutely keepers. They fulfill both their design objectives and the wishes/needs of photographers who wish for a peak-quality monochromatic camera. Their development and release, and Leica's continuing commitment to monochromatic imaging reflect, in my personal opinion, a distinct strategic vision at Leica, one that's centered on making a qualitative versus quantitative difference in the marketplace. 3
ramarren Posted September 25, 2024 Share #4 Posted September 25, 2024 The M10 Monochrom very quickly supplanted my previous "all time favorite" camera ... Congrats and good luck with yours! G
R4p70r Posted September 29, 2024 Share #5 Posted September 29, 2024 Same here! Got my M10M since October 2023 and I absolutely love this camera even though I own a M11 since August 2022. My go to M is the M10M with lenses that got lens character. I shot some modern lenses on it and it isn't look right to my eyes. As soon I use the M10M in combination with lenses with lens character it reminds me of shooting my M6 and film. One of the reasons I stopped shooting with my M6 is the film price and it takes a long time till I get the roll of film full because it is film with 36 exposures I get more picky what I shoot. If I have to choose which camera is my forever camera on the digital front it is definitely the M10M.
ramarren Posted October 4, 2024 Share #6 Posted October 4, 2024 I've been swapping between the M10-M, M10-R, M4-2, and new-to-me IIIc and M6TTL 0.85 a lot lately. Have to laugh!... This is a king's ransom worth of amazing cameras! Never before in my life did I ever imagine that I would have not one or two but FIVE Leica cameras to delight in! What's really interesting to me is just how much quieter the digital cameras' shutter is compared to the film cameras. There's nothing loud or obnoxious about any of them, but the M10-M and M10-R shutters are so well damped and silent it is sometimes difficult to know that I've made the exposure. Yes, also have to chuckle about the number of frames I shoot ... Going out with the digital bodies, I rarely shoot much less than about 50 exposures in a day's session. Doing the same thing with the film bodies, dang it sometimes takes me three or four days to consume just ONE roll of 36 exposure film. Whether I'm conscious of it or not, the fact that there are just a limited number of frames to work with before reloading seems to constrain my shutter release finger. The "auto wind on" of the digital bodies is another factor ... I don't have to stop and wind the shutter with every exposure: it's done for me, automatically, and practically instantly. That is a subtle factor, I'm sure of it. The biggest downside to all of this is ... well, I've kept up with the film processing (B&W only, do it in my kitchen with a daylight loading tank) and digitizing (again, done in my office with copy stand and macro setup) but there's getting to be a HUGE backlog of now raw exposures waiting to be rendered quickly, selected for finishing, etc etc. It's not a bad downside to have to deal with. onwards, G
Likaleica Posted October 12, 2024 Share #7 Posted October 12, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think the M10M will be a digital classic, if there will be such a thing. The rapid obsolescence and rapid product cycle of digital cameras does vex me. My M3 still works exactly the same as it did in 1955, and it's not obsolete. My M10M will become obsolete when batteries are no longer available, or electronic parts, or even compatible SD cards, but I will probably be extinct by then. I absolutely love the M10M. It has helped me realize some of my favorite images.
