NERICSSON Posted September 14, 2024 Share #1  Posted September 14, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Seeing the M11-D i get the urge for a Q-D , preferably monochrome. And photo only, no video features... 🙂 Maybe I will wait forever?
Advertisement Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 Hi NERICSSON, Take a look here Urge for a Q-D. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Stephen.s1 Posted September 14, 2024 Share #2 Â Posted September 14, 2024 sounds like a safe bet
LocalHero1953 Posted September 14, 2024 Share #3  Posted September 14, 2024 I hope so. Let's leave the heritage instinct to the M side of the forum, and allow the Q, SL and S to develop according to photographic needs and the available technology.
NERICSSON Posted September 14, 2024 Author Share #4 Â Posted September 14, 2024 (edited) Not sure I have an heritage instinct, just that I would prefer the ISO dial instead of the LCD that I do not use... and in addition nice to get away with annoying video features... LocalHero1953 Posted September 14, 2024 Share #5 Â Posted September 14, 2024 I have no problem with adding an ISO dial, but not taking away features.
MikeD70 Posted September 14, 2024 Share #6  Posted September 14, 2024 I'll second that notion of the video function being annoying. Somehow, I just don't seem to be able to combine video in a basically great photo camera, seems out of place to me. But then, I never figured out why someone decided to give up on video bodies in the first place. I guess I'm too old to embrace the future.
Marc B-C Posted September 14, 2024 Share #7 Â Posted September 14, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I love the idea of a ?? D, however, I cannot stand the idea of having to use an app to make any adjustments. The camera would have to be stand alone for me to be interested.
Le Chef Posted September 14, 2024 Share #8 Â Posted September 14, 2024 You can make adjustments without the app, once you have done the initial setup, according to Jono.
NERICSSON Posted September 14, 2024 Author Share #9 Â Posted September 14, 2024 Maybe I am dreaming of a light version of "D" where everything would work as usual in the EVF, just replace LCD with the iso dial
mhasman Posted September 15, 2024 Share #10  Posted September 15, 2024 +1. But never ever happening, unfortunately
bobtodrick Posted September 15, 2024 Share #11 Â Posted September 15, 2024 Since the day I bought my Q five years ago I shut off the rear LCD in the menu...for all I know it doesn't even work. Why would I spend more on a special camera when a couple seconds in the menu achieves the same result?

I may be wrong, but I think that for some people it’s more of a psychological thing. With a screenless camera, you are not tempted to turn on the screen and chimp.

Because the decline in sales of consumer-grade camcorders followed more or less the same trajectory of point & shoot cameras. Killed by smartphones from one side, and by hybrid mirrorless on the other side. Releasing a camera with no video functionality is basically a commercial suicide in 2024. The M is the only exception to the rule, but that comes down to being the only rangefinder in town with virtually zero competition.

As it is today on my Q-116 there is a disable function for video that just partly disables video, very annoying...

LocalHero1953 Posted September 15, 2024 Share #16 Â Posted September 15, 2024 As someone who uses video, but has never accidentally used it when intending to take photos, I find myself baffled by this issue. If I didn't want to use video occasionally, I could forget the camera has the capability.
costa43 Posted September 15, 2024 Share #17  Posted September 15, 2024 (edited) I just cannot see a market for a screenless Q. At least not one of the size that Leica would want to justify the R&D for such a camera. I think the Q is the perfect platform for Leica to push the boundaries of what is possible in an every day compact(ish) camera. Edited September 15, 2024 by costa43
LocalHero1953 Posted September 15, 2024 Share #18 Â Posted September 15, 2024 (edited) I see the Q series as a gateway drug for Leica: buy a Q, and see the massive step up in quality you can get over a phone or anything smaller than APSC. Â Next, the punter will want a similar camera where they can change lenses. There are many posts from such Q owners in this forum. Removing a screen or video would be a big turnoff ("you mean it's less capable than my phone?") Of course, there are others, like me, who came to the Q from the CL or M, wanting a travel/social/family camera with similar IQ; I'm sure some (not me) might buy a Q-D. But I suspect we are a less lucrative source of profit to Leica than the person wandering into a Leica boutique because they've heard the name, then finding they can buy one that is prestigious, takes great photos AND is easy to use ("and it's the same sensor as in our top end M11, sir/madam"). Mind you, a Q-D might be a simpler development than the M11D: no need to use a phone to manage it - you can continue to use the EVF for menus, playback etc. I wonder how easy it is to remove the Q3 tilt screen? Would the camera refuse to work, or would you just have a DIY Q3D? Edited September 15, 2024 by LocalHero1953

Mr Perceptive Posted September 15, 2024 Share #20 Â Posted September 15, 2024 Not point deleting the rear screen when you shoot through an EVF - unlike a true rangefinder
