I'll second that notion of the video function being annoying.  Somehow, I just don't seem to be able to combine video in a basically great photo camera, seems out of place to me.  But then, I never figured out why someone decided to give up on video bodies in the first place.  I guess I'm too old to embrace the future.

Why would I spend more on a special camera when a couple seconds in the menu achieves the same result?

I may be wrong, but I think that for some people it’s more of a psychological thing. With a screenless camera, you are not tempted to turn on the screen and chimp.

Because the decline in sales of consumer-grade camcorders followed more or less the same trajectory of point & shoot cameras. Killed by smartphones from one side, and by hybrid mirrorless on the other side.
Releasing a camera with no video functionality is basically a commercial suicide in 2024.
The M is the only exception to the rule, but that comes down to being the only rangefinder in town with virtually zero competition.

No need for suicide here, just add a feature in firmware, selection between "Photo" and "Hybrid", selecting "Photo" would remove all traces of video in function and menues. As it is today on my Q-116 there is a disable function for video that just partly disables video, very annoying...

Then you would need to hire additional customer service reps because of enraged customers who accidentally turned off video or changed their mind etc etc

I just cannot see a market for a screenless Q. At least not one of the size that Leica would want to justify the R&D for such a camera. I think the Q is the perfect platform for Leica to push the boundaries of what is possible in an every day compact(ish) camera.

I see the Q series as a gateway drug for Leica: buy a Q, and see the massive step up in quality you can get over a phone or anything smaller than APSC.  Next, the punter will want a similar camera where they can change lenses. There are many posts from such Q owners in this forum. Removing a screen or video would be a big turnoff ("you mean it's less capable than my phone?")

Of course, there are others, like me, who came to the Q from the CL or M, wanting a travel/social/family camera with similar IQ; I'm sure some (not me) might buy a Q-D. But I suspect we are a less lucrative source of profit to Leica than the person wandering into a Leica boutique because they've heard the name, then finding they can buy one that is prestigious, takes great photos AND is easy to use ("and it's the same sensor as in our top end M11, sir/madam").

Mind you, a Q-D might be a simpler development than the M11D: no need to use a phone to manage it - you can continue to use the EVF for menus, playback etc. I wonder how easy it is to remove the Q3 tilt screen? Would the camera refuse to work, or would you just have a DIY Q3D?
