stevem7 Posted August 26, 2006 Share #1 Posted August 26, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I hear that Leica is raising the prices of all lenses again. Does anyone know when this will be? I guess Tony Rose at RFF mentioned this and a price increase on M7 and MP bodies as well but the bodies wont be until Jan 1st. Lenses soon. Just wondering when the lenses are going up. stunsworth Posted August 26, 2006 Share #2 Posted August 26, 2006 Hi Steve, where do you live? If it's in the US it's probably due to the continued errosion of the dollar - nearly 2 dollars to 1 GBP here in the UK, Euro's strong too.

stunsworth Posted August 26, 2006 Share #4 Posted August 26, 2006 Steve, I should add that I've not heard of any price rises in Europe - or anywhere else for that matter, is this coming from a dealer?
peter_n Posted August 27, 2006 Share #5 Posted August 27, 2006 From Tony Rose - popflash. 4 to 5% on lenses.
wattsy Posted August 27, 2006 Share #6 Posted August 27, 2006 Steve, I should add that I've not heard of any price rises in Europe - or anywhere else for that matter, is this coming from a dealer? I don't think Leica 'warn' about forthcoming price rises - at least not here in the UK. They just quietly issue new RRP prices to their dealers (and presumably raise the dealer prices). This appears to be happening quite frequently and prices have crept up relentlessly over the last 18 months in the UK - especially with regard to lenses. The new 6-bit coding has provided another opportunity for a price rise - for example, the current price for a coded 35/F2 ASPH (at Classic Camera) is now £1369. wilfredo Posted August 29, 2006 Share #7 Posted August 29, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Right now you can get a $500.00 rebate on a new MP and M7 so it is strange to hear about another price increase. Used M7's have been going for about $1900.00 U.S. on E-Bay in minty condition. Cheers, Wilfredo+ Benitez-Rivera Photography
wattsy Posted August 29, 2006 Share #8 Posted August 29, 2006 Right now you can get a $500.00 rebate on a new MP and M7 so it is strange to hear about another price increase. Used M7's have been going for about $1900.00 U.S. on E-Bay in minty condition. I think Leica's latest rises have been orientated towards the lenses. The bodies seem to be the same price as around a year ago.
rob_x2004 Posted August 29, 2006 Share #9 Posted August 29, 2006 Also been a lot of frauds on the MP and M7 recently. Where are we getting rebates on them?
rob_x2004 Posted August 29, 2006 Share #10 Posted August 29, 2006 Gotta laugh. I notice a two M7's one black and one chrome are being offered by two separate ebay sellers right now. Minty condition. Good one. Pick the shonk. Is one of the four cameras all good? Have seen the pictures before, heaps of times. You gonna email Simon on his hotmail, or sm at AOL, for the "contact me before bidding buy it now" price? Reasonable prices on 'Minty' second hand M kit....Right. rob_x2004 Posted August 29, 2006 Share #11 Posted August 29, 2006 Oh ohh...Three times listing now, six cameras sharing the same pics to different sellers. Yay referencing ebay, for advising the state of pricing in the market place.
albertwang Posted August 29, 2006 Share #12 Posted August 29, 2006 geewhiz, what a joke! Leica needs to have cheaper lenses sooner or later... up the wazoo.

christoph_d Posted August 30, 2006 Share #15 Posted August 30, 2006 Gentlemen, The "price rise rumour" could perhaps be attributed to a rise in the german tax (Mehrwertsteuer) which will take effect in the beginning of next year. However this will affect ONLY products sold in Germany (but will equally apply to other camera makes). Kind regards, C.
chris_yu Posted August 30, 2006 Share #16 Posted August 30, 2006 Here in Hong Kong since August 7,2006 a 5 to 12 % price increase was in effective for all Leica R and M products. Chris Yu
ptomsu Posted August 30, 2006 Share #17 Posted August 30, 2006 Well, as long as they can do that and still somone buys their stuff new, then why should they not try? I think they already reached the peak which is acceptable by most users, especially if you compare the quality of other brands, which has sustantially improved. So it is only a question of how lon there will be still interest in paying so much extra for such a small difference. Don't know, but for me the peak is almost reached. Sandokan Posted August 31, 2006 Share #18 Posted August 31, 2006 ... Reasonable prices on 'Minty' second hand M kit....Right. Hi Rob, I agree that you have to sort through eBay to see the "fake" ones from the real sales - but after asking questions to the seller you can see if they really know about the camera and the genuine photos are easy to differentiate from the "duplicates". I bought a M7 and it arrived and is perfect - I think the seller is actually a forum member, but I had no doubts it was a genuine sale - and I got it for the price I wanted to pay. I did not bid on many others that looked suspicious.
