Can anyone recommend a tool to unscrew either front or rear rings of this Elmar? I’ve tried everything at my disposal. Lens bungs, friction pads, jar openers, WD40,  but the thing just won’t move!

Giulio, for both (front and back) you will need clamps tools (2 dimensions). Possibly the third one for the grip. Clamp tools shall have the same diameter as lenses mount otherwire grip might be not strong enough. Main mount is aluminium and it tends to corrode and this makes it diffucult. One mothod that helps in releasing difficult therads is heat (warm/cool). But di not do it here - rear group is cemented, if you heat more than 80C it may separate.
Aperture ring is theraded, aperture scale is a tube (brass) pushed over aluminium. If you remove the screw fixing the scale and both side screws on aperture ring you may try to screw the ring more, then you may try to push aperture scale tube to the rear to get an access to connecting point of first lens mount and main mount. What helps as well in releasing stuck threads is mechanical intervention - slightly hammering (with wood) on the thread. But again - not on the rear, cemented group.
