Advertisement Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Hi leicavirgin, Take a look here Breaking the surface. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
leicamann Posted August 26, 2006 Share #2 Posted August 26, 2006 Nice shot. A cute but extremely dangerous and violent animal if encountered in the wild. When Jacques Cousteau was trying to film them in Africa..I am not sure where, could have been the Okavango, the hippo charged the camera ( that was tied by ropes on each side, they didn't want anyone in the water at that time, this was a test) and smashed about $20,000 dollars worth of filming equipment. Needless to say , if they were going to film the Hippos, they needed a different approach...which they eventually found. Thanks for your post of your zoo images. wda Posted August 26, 2006 Share #3 Posted August 26, 2006 Your interesting picture has a strange appearance, rather like looking at a colour negative. I wonder why because hippos are surely darker and blacker than appears on my screen. David
elmarman Posted August 27, 2006 Share #4 Posted August 27, 2006 The animal has a strong magenta colour cast which you could have removed in photoshop if you have it.
cbretteville Posted August 27, 2006 Share #5 Posted August 27, 2006 Well done with a 135 on the MP. As for the colour cast, one click in iCorrect Edit Pro and you get this: - Carl
stuny Posted August 27, 2006 Share #6 Posted August 27, 2006 Susan - We've missed you. An appealing shot of one of the two most dagnerous of Africa's animals (the cape buffalo is the other). Ironic that the two most dangerous are herbivors.
leicavirgin Posted August 27, 2006 Author Share #7 Posted August 27, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you everyone for looking and for your interesting comments. In the Zoo, this animal appears pretty docile, fortunately there is a great barrier for protection here. I took another look at the print, and the tones are closer to Carl's, and closer to reality. I do have "Photoshop Elements" but have not used it enough to use it well, but can see here that a little study could be beneficial. It will be something to work on over the winter, along with my German Nomally the Hippo's water is murky, but they must have just changed the water and cleaned the pool out that morning...I went back the next day and the water was already pretty cloudy.
