I can't select MF setup on Sl2s

Hi Guys I really need your help!

1/ I am trying to select the MF menu on my SL2s with a manual or autofocus lens attached and it is impossible... remains grey 

2/ I try to assign to the joystick the magnification function but also seems impossible...it is also grey all the time

Can you please advise me? thank you!!!

Does your AF lens have a focus mode switch on the side?

Which lens is it? As above, lens may be set to MF and so that option is redundant on the camera. I had this with a Panasonic zoom

My basic lens is the Vario Elmarit 24-90 SL. The other lens is Voigtlander Ultron 28mm VII attached to the camera with the Leica M to L adapter. The VA doesn't have switch for MF and the Voigtlander is native manual lens... Thank you for your time !!!

For your Voigtlander this is normal behaviour - I get the same when attaching e.g. my Summilux 35mm and it focusses/operates as normal. It is greyed out because AF/MF is not relevant to a fully manual lens.

If this is also happening with your 24-90mm then there must be something else going on...

Oh and IIRC the latest SL2-S firmware does not allow setting the joystick for MF zoom. A source of many complaints and something Leica say they will remedy in a future firmware update. This upset a lot of users (although in my case I use one of the front buttons for focus zoom - because I also like to use it with AF lenses and I use the joystick for back button focus).

I use the two front buttons - the lower one for APS-C crop and the upper one for magnification/zoom. I find this very intuitive and is now fully in my muscle memory - one when I want to compose with a 1.5x crop and the other if I want to zoom in to check details or fine tune the focus. This leaves the joystick free e.g. for back button focus with AF lenses, or for other operations.

Superb I try the bottom one for magnification, I am familiar and fully adjusted my muscle memory with the upper one for exposure compensation, which I use all the time... thank you again Frank! I followed you on Instagram, beautiful photos!!

Don’t know about the SL2-S, but for the SL2, I set the joystick for AF, but use the focus ring  on the lens (SL 24-90) for magnification. A touch on the shutter button brings back full view.

So how does one set MF, obviously not using joystick but is their another way??

Using 24-70 and Sigma 35

For the Sigma: it probably has a switch for Manual and Auto (I have the 85 f/1,4, and it has that switch on the lens). You need to switch to Manaus on the lens, the option is not available in the camera.

For the 24-70, if the Leica model: you select "M" Manual focus ion the home screen menu. The lens will magnify the image as soon s you turn the focus ring (you can set and adjust amount as you wish). I you select any of the autofocus modes, you can still manual focus by half-pressing the shutter button, but there will be no magnification.
