ymc226 Posted August 29, 2024 Share #1 Posted August 29, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I don't want to carry any extra cards or batteries and am happy to take my chances with one of each for the entirety of the trip. I'll charge via USB C and hopefully the card won't fail or fill completely up. On the Leica tech specs of the D-Lux 8, UHS II is recommended but is there a maximum storage size I should not exceed? I was thinking 256GB would be enough.

I use a 128GB card and with the small file size of the D-Lux 8 I could shoot for two months without filling it.
Al Brown Posted August 29, 2024 Share #3 Posted August 29, 2024 Do not use anything bigger than 32.0×24.0×2.1 mm because it won't fit. Humor aside, you are not limited with size. Future proofing when buying cards is a good idea, so buy 256 or 512 now and use in the next iteration/camera as well.
wda Posted August 29, 2024 Share #4 Posted August 29, 2024 Unless your unspecified trip is absolutely repeatable, I would think again by going with just one memory card. Malfunction, theft or loss of that card could result in total loss, or dependence on a smartphone camera if you have one.
ymc226 Posted August 29, 2024 Author Share #5 Posted August 29, 2024 Thanks for all of your responses. It is not that I like to take risks but a reaction to all the times I’ve traveled with too much equipment and redundancies. Now I’m going the other way as age is making me much less tolerant of extra bulk and weight.
XMan Posted September 21, 2024 Share #6 Posted September 21, 2024 (edited) I flew jets in the Air Force and was always pleased I was sitting in an ejection seat. Fortunately I never needed to use one! But! I have had a couple of SD cards fail over the years and always have an empty spare with me. There are many places I have visited where I would be heartbroken if a card failed and that was the end on my using the camera until I returned to base! They are tiny little things and common sense tells me it is easy and smart to carry a spare. I also carry a spare battery but see that as less important in the scheme of things but again, a D-Lux battery is relatively small and easy to carry, so why not.
