Ok, after reading @jonoslack and Sean Reid's reviews I am starting to think it might be real. Seriously though, it looks fantastic. The bokeh is lovely, the lack of CA or longitudinal CA are great, and overall I think it will be just such a joy to use, if my time with the Q2 is anything to go by. I am going to have to start looking under mattresses and finding old filters to sell (let's see, 690 filters at ten dollars each...). The best cameras are usually more than the sum of their parts, and this is reminding me a bit of my favorite fixed lens film camera, the 35mm f2 Hexar AF. Despite it being made from comparatively low grade materials, having a top speed of only 1/250th and somewhat slow AF, it just makes such beautiful pictures. Even though I have done very well with M cameras for my landscape work or more serious travel and documentary, I found the Hexar was just better for candids and spontaneous work. It is not really a matter of practice...I have been shooting M cameras for over twenty years. It is just the synergy of controls, lens character and overall image quality. I had hoped the Q2 would do that for me, as I adored the SL2 sensor, but the lens just did not appeal to me for various reasons. I can tell already by the pictures I have seen in Sean and Jono's reviews as well as the MTF that the new 43mm is going to be much more to my taste. Very excited to see how the community responds to this new addition. I think it is going to be embraced warmly by users.

Well, I am going to bitch a bit.

I didn’t expect it would be available right away, so I still need some more months to save up 😎

Meanwhile, I will read a bit more about the normal Q3 here and enjoy the pictures people will show here.

At least I ordered a strap already…

I thought I was done with Q cameras, but now I have a crazy thought: Could the Q3 43 replace my newly-acquired SL2-S, which I use almost exclusively with M lenses ranging from 50 to 135mm?

I’d lose the varied character of my M lenses. And I’d have to deal with that zoomed-in, faux-framelines view in the EVF, as opposed to the huge, bright view in the SL2-S EVF. And I’d lose a little in low-light performance, I think.

On the other hand, I’d have a smaller camera that I’d be far more likely to take everywhere. And I’d have the faster autofocus of the newest-generation Leicas.

Uh oh….

Would be an instant buy.

An instant buy with a billion names already on the waiting list. 😢

For travel, a 28mm Q3 and a 43mm Q3 would be an outstanding pair.

I have found that 28mm and 50mm cover about 90% of my focal length needs and a pair of Q3 cameras would give you a backup body in case one got damaged.  Two lightweight cameras, two stellar lenses of different focal lengths...  What's not to like?

As a Q3 owner, I don't see the need to add the Q3 43. I can get a very nice 43mm-ish shot from cropping, and still have 28mm at the wide end. I use 28mm a lot for environmental portraits and landscapes so wouldn't want to lose that. I do have a GR3X as my ultra-pocketable travel camera and that's a cracking little thing, and runs 40mm.

However, the images on Jono's review do look astonishingly good. The clarity, crispness and focus falloff is quite remarkable.

If I didn't have a Q3, I'd be very tempted by the 43. I think I'll have to wait for the 70mm version....

Or maybe the 105mm version.

Here in London the dealers seem to have been given quite high initial stocks by Leica standards.  I got one at the Leica Harrods Boutique at 3pm UK, no problem.  The Leica UK website is showing immediate despatch, and even Red Dot seemed to have some unsold stock when I last looked.  Not at all what I had feared!

I'm just gonna rock it, I rarely use macro mode. I remember missing a great shot with my q2m because I had it in macro. I get why Leica wanted it the same length but it is a bummer.

I find that with the 43mm the closest focusing distance (non macro) of 0.6m is quite limiting, so I ve been switching between macro/non macro quite often for the past few hours.
