Whoa!  What currency is that?  Seems high for US dollars, Euros and British Pounds.

If I see one more YouTube video on the Q3 43 from people just reading rumors and talking about it I’m going to throw up… lol

I’ll only watch a couple of the most trusted camera reviewers tomorrow morning before I go to pick up my camera, make sure there isn’t some glaring issue like AF not working with new lens.

hello, I am new here and to Leica.

I had all versions of the Sony RX1 and since a few years I stopped taking images, mainly street photography. I am now considering this Leica Q43, but hoping not to spark a debate, I wanted to know if it is worth for me to splurge on this Q43 if much better than the RX1.

I liked the portability of the Sony and I had a Q, I think the first/second one, in my hands and whilst not loving the heavier weight, I could have accepted it.

My question is if I will see a significant increase in image quality coming from where I stand (RX1)?

Thank you in advance!

Welcome to the forum.
Until tomorrow, we are in the same state of total ignorance as you. We can all make assumptions.....

The AF is in another league. The EVF is way better and huge compared to the pop up one from Sony. The back LCD is better. The menus are way more simplified,  I think they are pretty terrible on the RX (have gotten much better with the latest Sonys). The IQ of the lens remains to be seen but the 35mm of the Sony was a little bit too clinical for my taste, albeit very sharp. The Leica will be bulkier but you tested that already.

How much of all those elements will be relevant to you... only you can decide.

The RX1 is a very dated camera but there are rumors of a new model. Sony developed curved/spherical sensor technology and it would be a great candidate for a fixed lens camera as lens design and sensor curvature need to fit together. That would lead to no spherical aberrations and no light fall off at the periphery (i.e. vignetting) as across the sensor the light would hit at 90º. The Q3 43 leaks promises an exceptional good edge performance but that technology could be even superior. There are no real hints when and if Sony releases that camera  but I don’t know how long one has to wait for sufficient supply of the Q3 43 so maybe Sony will release it before I can get my hands on a Leica

Bigger, heavier... the lens will be phenomenal looking at the mtf curves.  It was often times said of the Q you get a great Summilux lens with a body attached.  If this lens looks as good as the charts suggest it will exceed the 28mm on the Q3 and perhaps that 150mm crop will be useful.

I've also heard rumors that Sony is preparing to introduce a RXr update.  We'll see what they can do, the original was and is a great camera and I'm a bit surprised they didn't update it regularly.
