We’ll see. Judging by forum posts a fair proportion of Q28 buyers are new to Leica - or even to photography.  And then the 28 mm focal length is more comfortable than 43.

My first two serious cameras were a Halina Paulette (45mm) and Voigtlander Vito C (50mm)

But I guess 28mm is a more familiar AoV from smartphones.

I'd still love to know about all the deniers in here who have gone quiet starting to sound like flat earthers.

Won't call anyone out but there's a few that's been flat out calling this release fake and that the images are photoshopped and that it doesn't exist...

In before rumour sites or reddit posts these.

Ok, if this is genuine, it looks like an internal PowerPoint presentation and whoever leaked this has violated their NDA, which means they will not be trusted in the future with information on prototypes or upcoming products.  I beta tested a couple of cameras for Leica a few years ago and it was tempting to post something when reading all the speculation (often incorrect or wishful thinking) on the Forum.  But NDA's should be honored.  Not talking about the posters of this information, who may not have an NDA.  But rather the people who gave them this information.

Agreed. I had a Canon SLR back in the 80s. Had 28, 50 and 135 lenses. It was film, obviously. Lost interest around 2000 as it was expensive and time consuming to arrive at an image. Defer enjoyment after waiting an age (to finish roll of 24 or 36 and then take to Boots etc.) only to find a few images that were worth keeping. Recently stumbled across the Q3 and realised it was everything I wanted. I admit, I was seduced in the first place by its looks. Add to that fabulous quality, wide angle and immediacy (after taking the image , to transferring to Fotos and then further work in Lightroom). All via two devices (camera and iPad). So, yes, it was the Q3 that brought me back to photography after an absence of more than 20 years. If I were buying next month, I’d still go with the 28. That would be too valuable an angle to ‘lose’ if the alternative starting point was 43 (or whatever it turns out to be in reality). But that’s just me. I think it’s great that Leica are making something that people will be passionate about, that will fuel their creative/artistic imaginations, and all the other positives. That’s something to celebrate, and we can surely agree on that. All good, methinks.

it's all speculation, the photo I got was from someone who posted on his social media a while back actually. I don't know about where he got his. Pretty sure he's got no affiliation with Leica. NDA or not, this is just a rumor photo as everything we've seen on rumor sites.

This is what the latest AI upscaling, denoising and sharpening tools are for.😏

Mind you, my first digital camera was a 2Mp Nikon p&s - I couldn't see why I'd ever need more than 2000 pixels on the long edge.

And my first was a 2.7 mp Nikon D1 and I still have some 11”x17” prints framed from it.

So, fellow Forum readers, the entire thing may be a big hoax.  I hope not, because that camera looks pretty sweet (except for the grey leatherette).  Come to think of it, it probably would be pretty easy to generate these images using AI with some pretty simple commands.

I can confirm I am new to Leica. However, I am not new to photography. My grandfather taught me how to use a camera, develop film and make prints in a darkroom when I was about 12. I've been making photographs both as an amateur and a professional ever since (55 years). I bought a Q2M three months ago and was instantly smitten with the Leica Q platform. So, I am thinking hard about a Q3 and even harder about which focal length would serve me better. 28mm and 43mm each have their strengths and appeals.

🙂

Definitely during the development and beta testing phase, a leak could be disastrous given the investment into a new product.
But this close to launch, it feels to me more like something intentional to drum up interest and orders for launch day.
It worked on me, I’m on a waitlist now, though the existence of such a camera was never confirmed to me.

Marketing materials and actual sample cameras would also have to be distributed much more widely at this stage (to retailers, news sites, influencers, etc...) so a leak becomes a lot more likely than when it was internal to Leica and a few trusted testers.

Another 'leaked' image posted on Reddit showing the Q3 28mm and 43mm side by side.

I still own three 40mm. M lenses and the 40 mm Rokkor is my body cap. The same with my S3, the 55 mm Distagon is my main travel lens.

And I like when the ears of my subjects are in focus more often than not. I detest to shoot unknown people from the close distance. My comfort zone is 40-50 mm. , commanding a subject from 3-4 meters is not my cup of tea.
And the context in travel 🧳 photography is important. I travel with one or two Godox 100 pros and a collapsible octa. The Q-43 mm will cover most of my needs.

Sorry for the rant in the rumour thread.

Thanks for the referral to the godox. I have a set of 200’s, but this one is even more portable and will be a great addition to the Q.

I have the SMDV Flip collapsible boxes. They are 380 grams and fit into the med sized suitcase.

Just read a review on 35mmc, a setup is shown in a livingroom pointing upwards. This is great for family gatherings etc.

wont buy a pink one though…

I could use these to replace all of my battered brollies (which are portable) and various softboxes (for home studio, but are a pain to set up and bulky to store).
