I'm not sure where this 47MP rumor started, but if true, the 43mm variant would also have contrast detect AF since the 60MP sensor is built around Phase Detect. And I can't see the point of using up old chips but then needing to reengineer the AF system. Now if it used the 47MP mono sensor which can't be adapted for Phase....well maybe then that would be an interesting rumor that hasn't been circulated yet 🙂

These are good points on phase detect vs contrast.  I’m quite happy with the sensors in my sl2 and al2-s.  I just know when to best use each.

I don’t see Leica with a new product using older tech sensors that have since been updated…

And the apo lens would be able to push the latest sensor’s imaging capabilities and I think that would only benefit Leica with higher sales.  It gives compatibility / slotting in with SL3 sensor and SL apo lenses.  And it gives M users something to grab when they want lightweight with top optics but AF stabilizers, etc…. It’s an “added” combo rather than a replacing combo….

that all being said, I’m cool with the older sensor.  Just give me the longer apo in front of it on the Q2… I don’t even need the tilt screen.  Lol

Only reason I mentioned the Q2 sensor earlier is because I read about it being mentioned on imaging resource. It honestly made no sense to me either. I got my Q2 because of how compact it is and I predominantly use it while travelling. I would not hesitate to grab a 43mm variant as I love taking street portraits and that can be challenging at 28mm.

What comedy! Bad reporting through social media keeps repeating itself. The next thing will be that the Q3 43 will have no rear screen and a Q2 sensor…

At least you stopped denying the possible existence of a Q43…

The reality is this guy has simply imagined a Q3/4 he would like. There’s no factual information. No clues from Leica. No new reference numbers or names registered on international registries. No sightings. It’s simply pure imagination at work by a graphic designer with time on his hands.

And in between punters smoking recreational chemicals and offering their views on what they would like, Leica still has to launch an SL3-S, an M11-D, a Q3M. With that in mind you would argue Mr. Burmeister’s fantasies (read his full flowing regurgitation of what he idealizes) are a very long way towards the bottom of Leica’s money-making priority list.

If 4504 was the Q3, then what is 4505? Q3M? Which presumably would come before any Q3 & 3 Quarters. According to Burpmeister that will lose its aperture ring but will gain another body thumb or finger control for that function.

Are Leica keeping up with demand on the Q3? If so then presumably they have capacity to trickle in a Q3M for another year or so until they contemplate a Q4…

Exciting times for dreamers!

If anyone is interested, Hugh Brownstone just posted an image on his instagram account that is very likely taken with this new Q.  The high contrast black and white rendering is very much in line with what I see when processing the images from my APO Summicron-SL lenses.

If I may? Here are those images. Promising I would say.

I am. None of what I said is untrue.

Well, you said you never denied the existence of a Q43. But in fact you did:

This is denying by all means. Same time you said there are "no factual information, no clues, no sightings" there were already guys like Hugh Brownstone running around in the open with the Q43 in their hands taking pictures.

But anyway, time to move on, don't you think? Let us be happy you were wrong.

It begins to feel a lot like in the german part of this forum…

Let’s get back to topic and speculate about the upcoming Q3 43!

Not so much a speculation, but an observance based on the images above.  One of the benefits of an APO lens that's not talked about enough is that it excels at rendering high contrast black and white images.  Properly aligning the color channels on the sensor make black and white conversions appear to be higher resolution and have more detail/microcontrast.

This should prove to be a very interesting camera.
