It would be nice if the Dlux-8, or -9 had a mono option. I'm not looking for one without the Bayer screen as the Q and M mono have, but if the viewfinder could be switched to mono it would help with visualising what the resulting shot would look like. I could even cope with having to convert the on chip results to mono in post processing.

I have a Q2mono and a Q3 but find I still take more photos with the Q2M. It's not for the increased resolution, just that I find colour is usually a distraction.

I don't have the 8 or even 7 but my Typ109 has a Mono setting in the Q Menu and when activated the displays are in B&W, the JPG is B&W but the DNG is colour.

There are many things of which many PanaLeica users are unaware.  One of my favorites which has been in all of the PanaLeicas I've owned or borrowed (Vlux1,2,4, 114 and 5, Dlux 5, 6 & 109) is called "iZoom.".  If you are shooting jpeg (but use highest jpeg setting) the menu has an "iZoom" function which is an algorithm that doubles the long end of the zoom range (in the D-Lux 8 that extends the longest zoom range to 150 mm equivalent).  It is virtually lossless and NOT AT ALL like digital zoom which just throws away pixels.

I do the same on my DL-109, CL and Q3. As I only shoot RAW, it means that in Lightroom I can have either color or b&w.

This sounds like an ideal candidate for the next version of firmware, should there be any.

I stand myself corrected. With the film style set to Mono in the menu, the EVF is also in mono.
