I rarely use AFC on the SL2-S because I find it underwhelming, but I do want a camera with more megapixels. However, I’m worried the SL3 might not offer any real improvement in autofocus — or worse, it might be the same or even less reliable. I primarily shoot travel, landscapes, and candid moments/portraits, so quick, accurate autofocus (minimal hunting) is much more important to me than high-speed continuous tracking. I already have a Nikon Z8 for the latter. For anyone who has tried the SL3, how does its autofocus compare to the SL2-S? • Is it the same? • Slightly better? • Worse? SL3's AF-C (max 4 fps at 14 bit RAW) is much compared to that on SL2-S. Both are doing fine regarding AF-S. For the shooting situations you mention, I would have zero hesitation using the SL3 (possibly with the exception of situations with many people moving around/crossing each other). All in all, of all SL-bodies, SL3 is the one I like most/have fewest concerns with. Others may/will disagree.

Ken Abrahams Posted January 22 Share #124  Posted January 22 (edited) Nothing scientific in the testing however The SL3S with VE 90-280 is much better with focusing speed. I tried it with MF back focusing, AFs and AFC which the latter did better than any of the other SL cameras I have. One thing though and Im not too sure but at first I could only get the lenses to focus after pushing the toggle twice. I noticed this the other day with the SL3 because I missed a shot when I pressed back focus and nothing happened until I pressed again. I changed some settings not that I can remember them as I am writing this however the camera did focus with one press either the toggle or shutter. Attached are images with 20,000 iso shot with Super Elmar M Lens at F8 using Perspective Control - one without denoise or topaz AI, one with Denoise only and the other with with Topaz denoise and sharpen. The images were initially processed in Lightroom by pressing Auto and once in Photoshop another adjustment and curve layer and pressing "auto" for curve.  Top - No Denoise or Topaz MiddleNo Denoise and Topaz IA at end denoise and sharpness Third image enhanced Denoise Adobe at Lightroom Welcome, dear visitor!
