Just purchased a MP directly from Leica USA, the card shows a date of 03/2022.  The camera is brand new, no fingerprints

Is this common to be sitting around for over 2 years ?

I'd be worried about a cream bun that had been sitting around for two years.

I don't think they are making Leica MP's continuously so it could be part of a delayed batch of Leica MP's released to dealers if production was shifted to making the 'new' M6 during 2022 and beyond?

Interesting, as for a moment there was shortages of MP/MA during 2022 if I am not mistaking. Congratulations on a beautiful camera!

Quite common with Leica film M cameras as they do not make them on a conveyor belt, it tends to be in small batch runs. I'm also in the market for a black mp and have called a couple of vendors here in Europe and the manufacture date for their current in stock bodies differs a fair bit.
