James, you've done such a beautiful job with the museum exhibits of my favorite car brand that you don't really give the impression of being in a museum. Really well done 😀

Regards Stefan

Thank you very much for your kind words, Stefan (@S/W), much appreciated! As a lover of BMW cars I tried to get some nice pictures for myself and that are resembling the quality of the brand. The presentation of the cars and bikes in the museum made it a lot easier than in other places, as there are no barriers or ropes one has to deal with. And the Q3 is a wonderful tool 😀

Likewise!  We have visited the Museum many times going back to pre Welt days. I think I read somewhere that it is now  most popular museum in Germany. PreCovid it was being overwhelmed by Chinese visitors who have a different, and difficult approach to such places!

Main point of post is to say a short walk away in an original factory building is BMW Classic. It is open to public but less well known and less crowded with a mostly enthusiast clientele . Highly recommended for any car enthusiast.

There is also a “M” collection that includes most of the race cars and is not open to the public.. Managed to visit it once with an organised group, and again well worth it if you get an opportunity.

BMW always bring several of their old cars and bikes to the two (UK ) meetings every year where you also get the noise and smells!

I really enjoyed driving my '76 528 in the early '80s.  Think it was top of range when manufactured.  Always fancied an '80W 6 series but never owned one.  Rode BMW Boxers for many years - R65 then R100RT.  Still miss the RT.  Owned a couple of the smaller engined Z3, but really wanted a larger boot.  Have had the odd nearly new car as a loan/hire and couldn't get on with the offset pedals/seat/steering wheel, nor all the electronic gubbins.

But that applies to most modern cars! :D

Enjoyed the photos - anyone land me an M1?  :D

That's an impressive list of vehicles you had or rode, @Graham (G4FUJ)! We ride a nine year old 320d touring as our main family car, we own it for eight years now and don't feel the need for an upgrade as it is reliable, comfortable and gets the job done. I think we will definitely get another combustion engine before they force us to the electric side of mobility. In the last couple of weeks I also thought about getting a Porsche 996 before the prices go through the rooftop, but this is a completely different topic.

As an addition some more shots from the BMW Welt:

We had this car at the start, but now the backside:

That's a stunning 5 series.  From the days before making the cars more aerodynamic, when the leading edge of the bonnet almost made the front end look shark like when viewed from the side.

I don’t see any problem with the white balance, but maybe my color perception differs 🙂

Was the car in the first shot random patterns of red and yellow/orange?
