Normally my SL3 records images on the card thus - (As do all my other cameras) -

BUT - sometimes they get recorded under PRIVATE instead of 100LEICA. What am I doing inadvertently to cause this?

Are you quite sure that they're full size image files and that they are written by your camera and not - say - your Apple computer?

No - I'm not sure! Maybe you're right - I'll check next time it happens.

I seem to recall that the private folder contains video files

I would then format your SD card (use "SD Card Formatter version 5.0.2") and start all over again. Take a video first and then look what there is on your SDcard. Then format it again an then take some images.

Pls report then what you see.

Well, I can't replicate what happened. I have formatted both cards and then shot both videos and photos. Videos only get recorded to the CF card, but appear under DCIM, just like stills. (I have DNG recorded to CF and to SD).

If it happens again I'll examine the "Private" files more closely - as POP suggested, it may be something the Mac did.
