It's the very best discussion I've seen on pros/cons of color vs mono. https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1868420/0#16613039

If this was shot with a monochrom, then I'm beginning to understand the tonality claim by monochrom owners. Do you recall what lens you used for this pic? Looks like the 35 lux pre-asph. I have the 35/1.4 lux steel rim reissue and could imagine producing an image like this shot wide open. I'm obsessed with that look. Welcome, dear visitor! The camera however is the M11-P! The decision for me was one M or two (answer 2), the decision then is whether to have two the same (ie M11P) or one colour and one monochrome and I went the latter due to the resolution and ISO performance. brickftl Posted August 13, 2024 Author Share #23 Posted August 13, 2024 UPDATE: I got my M11M yesterday, absolutely love it. I was going out for a shoot last night on an artsy project I've cooked up, but I'm under the weather so it will have to wait. Meanwhile I shot these images in the garden using the Voigt 75 Ultron - nothing special, just test images, couldn't be happier. The images are WAY sharper than images from my newly acquired M11-P which I'm definitely keeping for times I want to shoot color. I guess that's attributable to not having the bayer filter? I ordered a yellow filter that I'll use when shooting people/landscape, and orange filter for other purposes including sky. I'm not into using a red filter to turn blue skies dark (and also it seems to lighten faces too much so I'll skip it). Welcome, dear visitor! Mute-on Posted August 13, 2024 Share #24 Posted August 13, 2024 I think these perfectly illustrate the attraction of B&W: it really does emphasise shape, shadow and texture. It’s a completely different type of photograph from anything with colour. Very nice.
lanetomlane Posted August 15, 2024 Share #25 Posted August 15, 2024 If you have an M11 I would go for the M11M purely for the consistency of battery and charger. Years ago I had the M9 and M9M. I upgraded the M9 to the M240 and because of having to take two lots of batteries and two chargers ended up with the M246. Big mistake and I eventually went back to the M9M. I now use the M10R and M10M which I’m really happy with. As far as image quality, with the right processing I don’t see any difference between the M10M and M11M. https://photographybytomlane.com

newtoleica Posted August 27, 2024 Share #29 Posted August 27, 2024 OK, this thread finally persuaded me. I'm picking up a lightly used M10-M to add to my M10-P next week. I shoot almost entirely B&W with my M and use a Q2 for casual family stuff in colour. I had an original M some years ago but find the M9 platform too dated now to go back to that. I print as a primary end point (using an Epson P700) and only recently (2 yrs) gave up Tri-X darkroom as my main creative output. Looking forward.
