Question is this normal NOT to see the selected profile. The default profile shows up with the little man with a "S". Other profiles I have do not show up with any numbers, indicating that profile is loaded.

I think this is normal, or at least this is what I am experiencing also.  I don't recall seeing a profile number on the first menu or viewfinder previously, though it might be a nice feature.  I have set my Thumb Wheel Button to user profile selection so it is easy to reset if I am unsure of where I am.

FWIW: I went ahead and updated.  Formated an SD card in camera.  Saved profiles (only have 2).  Took a random image to have on the card to be sure frame numbering does not reset.  Took card out of camera and placed into card reader.  Put downloaded firmware file on the card at root level (downloaded this morning after Leica fixed the name).  Placed card back in camera.  No issue updating firmware (camera "saw" update file).  Did say "yes" when asked to save profiles.  Restarted camera as directed.  Needed to reset language and time zone (actually the camera kept correct date and time. I had to move the time zone to my location and reset the clock to 12 hour (from 24 hour) and the date to my display preference M/D/Y). The only 2 issues I found (so far) that were not correct are: 1) the function button I had set to AE lock changed to Digital Zoom (I changed it back) and 2) the copyright text I had entered was reset to default and had to be reentered (this could have happened at the last update as I did not check it at that time).  Have turned camera on and off several times, taken a few more images.  All is now exactly like before.  Both profiles show up in the initial menu screen WITH the expected numbers (1 and 2).  Like before if I change anything, the number for the profile goes away but the choice of the numbered profiles still remains (i.e. have the choice of the X, S, 1 and 2 as the value in the little circle by the person icon for profiles). If I turn camera off with (for example) profile #1 selected and the # 1 showing in the little circle, when I turn the camera back on, the profile icon still has the little circle with # 1. Frame numbering did NOT reset (I had kept an image with the last frame number on the card). Although nice to think the update might have brought noticable improvements, I do not think any actual function of the camera has changed (i.e. focus speed, lag times, etc).  Basically, after fixing the mentioned changes ( and these changes happened with both firmware updates (2.0.3 and 2.0.5)), the camera seems to be working exactly as it always had.

Here is a quick video I made showing the profiles I have. I select one, the screen does not show the profile number, name. When I open up the profile again the profile I loaded is not present indicating its the active profile. Link below to a YouTube video I captured of this.

As I can see, you have not really select a profile. You must tap on the profile icon to select that profile. This works for me since day zero.

UPDATE:

I deleted all the existing profiles and created new ones. Now the numbers are showing up as they should.

This is in itself a highly frustrating bug. The old behaviour was infinitely better. As I cannot see any advantage to be gained from this new firmware that over-rides the profiles disadvantage, I see no reason to,apply it.

As said above, I followed the instructions and everything was as it was before. The only question is did you reimport your profiles from the card to the camera? Not doing that would mean the camera does not know you had profiles before. You have to go the the “User Profile” settings in the camera and there is a menu option to reimport your profiles, which you select to do so.

During the update it asked me if I wanted to use the existing profiles, which I did. This is when I noticed the missing #'s shown in the video. I did a factory reset of the camera reimported the saved profiles and had the same issue. It was not until I deleted the profiles and created fresh new ones that fixed the issue. Now all is well! Just did not like the old profiles. I still have the old profiles that caused the issue. Your welcome to see if you get the same results I had they are attached,

I have managed to get the profile number to show on the quick memo screen next to the icon (just as it did in the previous firmware). It now disappears if I change a setting and reappears if I change that setting back to the value that is stored in the selected profile.

I achieved this by selecting each profile in turn and saving it again, overwriting the already saved profile. Not something that I'd expect to be necessary.

This thread seemed to have caused some confusion. What I, and others, we're reporting was the missing number next to the icon on the quick menu screen. The problem wasn't that the profiles had disappeared. I saved them as part of the Fotos update process and restored them after the update, and they were all there in the correct slot. The problem was not knowing what profile was the currently selected one as the number on the profile icon wasn't there.

Your first paragraph describe the useful behaviour before the new firmware exactly.

Correct me if I am wrong, but your advice appears to be:

a) Save profiles to disk,

b) upgrade firmware from disk,

c) restore old profiles from disk,

d) select profile 1, using the profile item on menu page 5 (which also allows one to check which profile is selected),

e) save profile 1,

f) repeat e) for profiles 2-5,

g) go to the quick menu page and find that the indication of the active profile works as it used to be.

It seems that Leica has set up some equivalent of the labours of SIsyphus for the Q3 users. I'll wait a while before installing this software update. No rush

I used Fotos to update the firmware, so when it asked if I wanted to save my profiles I selected that option. The update proceeded and after it had completed I restored my profiles using the restore option.

I then selected profile 1 using the quick menu profile option. I then saved the profile to slot 1 and responded yes to the prompt to overwrite what was already in that slot. I then selected profile 2 from the quick menu profile option and did the same process and then repeated for all my profiles.

I can now see the profile number next to the profile icon on the quick menu. If I change something, such as selecting a specific ISO when my profile uses auto ISO the number is no longer visible on the quick menu profile icon. If I change the ISO setting back to auto ISO the number on the icon reappears.

If you simply download the new firmware to a clean formatted SD card.

Then transfer the card to the camera. Follow the instructions and say “yes” when asked if you want to save profiles.

When the new firmware has been installed and time/ time zone/date corrected, then go to page 4 in the menu and select “User Profiles”. Scroll down to “Manage Profiles” and select “Import Profiles” confirm yes and all your profiles return and are saved to their previous slots.

Done!

That isn't the issue. I already stated that all my saved profiles had restored and were available after the update.

The issue is the behaviour of the number on the quick menu profile icon, which on my camera did not behave as it did prior to this firmware update. I managed to get the previous behaviour back by resaving each of my profiles. Again, this isn't an issue about profiles being missing, just the behaviour of the quick menu profile icon.

My quick menu had the numbers and the names back straight away.

So did mine. I hit the user profile icon and they are all there. That's not the issue. The issue is when I select profile 1 for example, there used to be a 1 on the quick menu user profile icon so you knew which profile you had loaded. After the firmware update that was no longer the case on my camera.

This is what I experienced as well. I did use the Fotus app to do the upgrade. Not sure that was the culprit or just going to 2.05 introduced the behaviour of the quick menu profile icon. "
