I’m updating tip 6 and tip 7 thereafter.
• About tip 4, Leica has found a fix i've been told but there are still complaints from users ignoring Leica's instructions so i keep tip 4 in my list for sake of precaution.
• About tip 6 ("Setting dust protection to off..."), i did not find evidences of dust protection causing freezes per se so i'm cancelling tip 6 for now accordingly.
• About tip 7, camera becoming unresponsive and rear screen going black have been reported under firmware 2.1.1 in case of shots in quick succession. I got also similar issues at startup in any drive mode under firmware 2.1.2. Updating my user profiles after each firmware update seems to have solved the issues.
• About tip 8, sharpies are not inadvisable for pen coding uncoded lenses or adapters but the ones i used were not black enough to avoid false code readings and could cause freezes to the M11. Using a sharpie first to mark the coding pits is perfectly possible though but unless sharpies are dark enough to be used alone, it is recommended to cover the marks with black paint or black ink anyway.
• The tips are purely empirical as usual since 2002 so don’t feel compelled to follow them. All advices are welcome for improving the list if needed.
—————
1. Switching camera off before mounting or removing a coded lens or adapter.
2. Switching camera off before mounting or removing the Visoflex 2.
3. Formatting memory cards with SD Card Formatter before inserting them in the camera.
4. Refraining from selecting lens detection auto for uncoded lenses (see comment above).
5. Setting auto review to shutter button pressed.
6. (cancelled, see comment above)
7. Updating user profiles after firmware updates 2.1.1 & 2.1.2 (see comment above).
8. Using black paint or black ink for pen coding uncoded lenses or adapters (see comment above).

Simple way, change at least one setting in your profile and save it as another name or the same name if you prefer (Main Menu page 4 > User Profile > Manage Profiles > Save as Profile), then export the new profile (Export Profiles) to the SD card if you want to keep it. A new "settings.lcse" file will be created on the SD card then and you may wish to save it to your computer as a precaution. See excerpt of the instruction manual below.

  • 3 weeks later...

• I’m updating tip 6 again (Choosing another storage option...) as i seem to have found a culprit for my freezes at startup. Was the IN=SD option apparently. With SD+IN instead, my freezes at startup are totally fixed, don't ask me why.
• Other tips remain unchanged so i repeat them below for the sake of memory only.
