Hello everyone, I have a question and maybe someone knows the answer. I have a Leica M8, and the LCD is not working, in Wetzlar they say that they no longer have replacement LCDs. It's set up well, and it takes pictures well. But I want to ask if when it is connected to the PC, it is possible to change the settings in the menu so that I don't do it blindly?? Thanks a lot. Jerry.

No, that is not possible as a CCD sensor has no video feed. The only thing you can do is to use auxiliary viewfinders in the hot shoe.

The M8 has no LiveView so how would an auxiliary viewfinder in the hotshoe help to change the settings, Jaap?

@Jaroslav Unfortunately if the M8's LCD is dead then you can only change the settings blindly.  I have a vague memory that a few years ago someone posted on the forum the steps needed to make various changes, for example: Set button, Down Arrow, Down Arrow, Set, Down Arrow, Set to change AWB to Tungsten.

There also might be some help for you in this thread:

Pete.

Hi, thanks to EVERYONE who contributed. I thought so, and only tried because someone told me so, but he didn't really believe it. I use it and enjoy it anyway. it's not a primary camera, and it's a joy. Thanks again, have a nice day.

I am not sure how compatible Leica Digital Capture 1.0 is with current OS but was supplied on a CD with the camera. With that installed settings can be changed on the camera, obviously not much help "on the go" but "on the bench" a solution to explore perhaps? My bold below:

Leica M8 Review: Digital Photography Review (dpreview.com)

Leica Digital Capture 1.0

Leica Digital Capture is a USB tethered shooting application which allows you to capture single or multiple exposures by simply clicking on the 'Capture' button (or pressing the spacebar). You can select predefined camera user profiles, change ISO, exposure compensation, white balance, compression and resolution. When using Digital Capture images are saved to the computer and not the SD card. Click here to see an example of the display after exposure.
