Batteries are available as spare parts, not as retail products. People buy a really small amount of batteries for old cameras, I think it makes no sense for Leica producing thousands of them. But then again, you are saying they are 11 years old, even if they cost 120 eur, that's what... 10 eur/year? :D  p.s. i ordered M9 oem batteries for 120 eur /each from my local leica dealer in Latvia, delivery is two weeks, waiting. I think they are the same as M240 ?

Right, I'm quite impressed by the life of the batteries, from what I've read. Both by how many shots can be taken per battery charge, and by how many years the batteries seem to last. And yes, if I can find NEW batteries (not NOS) and they cost $200 each but last ten years, I won't cry about the price.

I'll start calling around and see what I discover. From what I've read in this thread, it seems possible to find batteries if you're willing to do some legwork and some waiting.

That's been one of the more frustrating aspects of the M development, having different batteries for each model.

M8 and M9 have same battery (without authentication chip, still many 3rd party offerings) but M240 came with a new one - paradisiacal conditions before then, some things were really better in the past!

I've talked to numerous dealers and Leica NJ , I have one on order with them since early December  - personally I don't think its a legwork issue but hope you prove me wrong

I've just received 2 fresh new batteries from a store in Antwerp (https://www.leica-shop-antwerpen.be). Ordered 3 weeks ago, and they said the batteries were in backorder at Leica. Just got them in the mail, no box, just some plastic bag with a partnumber (420-240.020-000) on it. Price was €160,-

Now I've got 6 batteries, for two camera's, (240 and mp240), should keep going for a while.

Same here, I've got 7 all working fine (4 from 2013...all second-hand w/unknown number of cycles, and 3 from 2021 bought new) for two M240's.  I feel like something else will brick these cameras (or me!) before the batteries.   I have begun to look after these more proactively and set a reminder on my phone calendar to check them each 6 months and charge them just until the 80% light comes on.  (Yes IK 50% is optimal but this is about as an*l as I'm willing to get LOL).

On a side note I've got 6 BP511A's (3 OEM, 2 generic, all at least 15 yrs old) still working fine on my pair of ancient EOS 5D MK1's.  And a couple LP-E5's for my Rebel 450d from 2012 also still working fine.  And a bunch of decade-old Sony NP-5W50's also fine.  None of these ones have been kept charged to 50% or in any way "maintained".  All of the Canon and Sony's have 3rd-party replacements in plentiful supply but tbh I'm beginning to get skeptical that age alone is the battery-killer it's said to be.

I am looking for a spare BP-SCL2 battery for my M262.  This is difficult but an irony strikes me.

I am  currently having 2 of my 3 M2s rebuilt up at Cameraworks UK in Bury - an outfit with their own Leica seal.

When finished these 60+ year old cameras will be as good as new and this is one reason why Leica cameras hold their price so well.

Could I do that with my M262 if essential things like batteries, sensors and other electronics cannot be found?

A 20 year old cameras with useless batteries or damaged sensors etc will be (almost) worthless, which will destroy the second hand market.

If Leica Camera AG don't recognise that spares need to be sourced for a long time, then there is no point in making a camera built for 100 years - they may as well make disposable cameras that can be thrown away.

Step up, Leica.  You've great brand to protect.
