To me, it seems to be a quite well-balanced review. Edited August 20, 2024 by leicas_boyfriend

D Lux 8 is a camera that according to Leica, is supposed to focus on the essentials but doesn't have a way to accurately set the focal length. That is THE essential function of any zoom lens and it is missing. I look through the viewfinder while zooming. When the composition looks right I stop zooming and click the shutter. I can't imagine why I'd need to know the exact focal length at that point.

I have an ancient LUMIX LX5 that has the same zoom range but not stepped like the D Lux 8 and it just works. The indignation is hard to understand. Le Chef Posted August 20, 2024 Share #25 Posted August 20, 2024 What is frustrating as Mike says, is the loss of zooming using the focusing ring, which is much smoother and more accurate that the hit or miss lever around the on/ off switch.

Sure it is a ‘loss’ but look at what you ‘gain’ 😉
