I can only speak for the D-Lux 7.

The hand grip is a must have for me.

As alternative, I''ve bought two good value for money protectors from MegaGear - they provide a kind of wave in their leather that acts a bit like a grip.

I think the cameras look very well with the grip (both, the 7 and 8).

Little disadvantage, at least to me with the 7:

The handgrips leads to to accidentally move and set the exposure compensation wheel with my thumb. 😀

But because I know that, I can take care.

No idea, neither if I'm the only one with that "problem" nor if the D-Lux 8 users encounter the same issue.

x

I have only middle size hands but for me both hand grip and auto cap are must haves. Other accessories I use are  a Match Technical BOOP O-L and Harry Benz B-Strap.

FYI my last D-Lux was a 4  a long time ago and after using a X1 and CL I forgot how compact the D-Lux 8 really is.

Great camera 😊

Thanks for the link. It seems to be a great company. I cancelled my order for the Leica hand grip and ordered one of theirs in ebony and it's going to look and feel great. From the photos, it appears their design allows access to the battery and SD card without removing the grip.

I got the Leica one but found it a bit small with my hand and getting to some of the buttons was a stretch. The rope one was from Mr Amazon - which was a bit cheaper!

Hi together,

I'm a bit torn at the moment.

I like the Handgrip from Leica for the D-Lux 8, but I also like the slim and clean design of the camera without this grip.

How is your opionion? Grip or design?

I am curious about your opinion .

Wish you all a great day.

keep it lean, keep it mean

Small is good

I suggest a small hand strap for confidence, e.g.:

VKO Soft Camera Wrist Strap, Rope Camera Hand Strap for DSLR SLR Mirrorless Cameras Adjustable Safety Strap(Green): Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

Hi All,

Wondering if anyone has purchased the half leather instead of the hand grip to add a bit of grip without the extra weight ?

thanks

Interesting question as I currently have the Leica handgrip only. On a previous CL I also had a Leica handgrip but ended up with an Arte di Mano halfcase (with small integrated grip). For some reason a half case gives me more confidence that my camera is protected. It is all very personal.

Arte di Mano is preparing a half case for the D-Lux 8 but that will take another 5 months as they have to source a D-Lux 8 first.

In the mean time I found this IMO nice half case on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1029499205/tp-orig-half-case-for-leica-d-lux-8 Battery SD access flap included. I have asked them if they can add some thicker part as  grip and the designer will look at it

At the end I still think that a D-Lux 8 with attached hand grip gives more comfort in the hand. This also because of the increased height. But any half case will give more protection…

Thank you so much for sharing your detailed response. It is much appreciated and I am going to experiment. Right now I am trying a two/three finger loop, which seems to be working for me.

Ordered this half-case + grip from Amazon, used it during my travels and is the perfect combination of half-case and grip, good quality also. Returned the official Leica Half Case and Grip.

I don’t think that was a good idea as if you look closely the black parts  overs the LED.

I made the same ‘mistake’ ordering this case at Etsy https://www.etsy.com/listing/1029499205/tp-orig-half-case-for-leica-d-lux-8

So IMO the Leica halfcase is not that bad sHowing the LED.

I remember when looking for a CL halfcase many designs also covered the LED. So U ended up with Arte di mano 😊

My grip arrived today and I'm quite impressed. It's comfortable, nice looking and best of all the design allows access to the battery and memory card without removing the grip. Leica might want to think about a redesign for theirs. It comes with a nice case (faux wood) and tool for tightening the screw.

It looks to me like the whole screen is visible. What are you saying is covered?

The grip I bought (pictured above) is light as a feather. The added weight is negligible.
