Hello everyone. I just got my hands on Q3 and I love it. I had Q1 years ago, lost it in action and I'm glad and I can get back to Leica. However I noticed few small differences and I hope I'm doing something dumb while missing them. Can anybody help? Thanks.

  1. Is panorama shooting mode gone?
  2. Is the "horizontal blur" shooting mode gone? It was creating kind of a miniature effect, by applying hard blur at the top and bottom parts of a photo.
  3. The most concerning... I can't see any change in depth in the viewer while adjusting aperture. Fixed ISO, AUTO shutter and manually adjusting aperture (so A mode) and I can't see any diff in sharpening / bokeh between f 2 and f 11. I may be delusional, but I'm sure I had that working just fine in Q1. Photos taken have different depth, but the live view is just the same. I'm probably doing something wrong here.

What do you mean by pano mode? You can set the Aspect Ratio to 16.9 in Menu 3 but this does not do what say an iphone does when it shoots a pano.

Wasn't aware of a horizontal blur mode.

Depth of field - Check your Auto review settings - main menu 4 - that may be in the off position - I have shutter button pressed - half pressing the button previews your settings - I'm not sure but exposure preview might also need to be set to PASM (menu 3 at the bottom)

iAF is a waste of time: you can get better results on your own.

If you want depth of field visible, shoot in manual focus.

Panorama? Stitch shots in post.

Horizontal blur? No idea what that is. If you want to blur the background of something in motion e.g. Panning, use a slower shutter speed.

I believe his "horizontal blur" is ability to imitate a tilt-shift lens.  I could sure be wrong, though, but my wife isn't here at the moment to point it out.

In AF-S mode the viewfinder/LCD image is shown with the lens wide-open and by half-pressing the shutter button you can preview the image with the lens stopped down to the set aperture.

You aint wrong. I see Q3 has no more gimmicks like that. It’s ok, just checking.

Thank you. Much appreciated. For some reason I assumed iAF would behave in a similar manner.  Switched back to AFs and all is good now.

Why is it two people criticise the manual for "blind spots" or "unhelpfulness"; but do not share where any of these occur, so that others might profit from their superior knowledge?

Come on, be cool. There is no «  superior knowledge ». Two people dare to make mild comments about the manual, there is nothing to get excited about. I am puzzled by the level of agressivity of some members on this forum, your comment being a good illustration. . You want an example, so what about the question of dealing with profiles. The fact that you have to delete a profile before saving it with changes is completely counterintuitive and never explained in the manual. As for other blind spots, I am tempted to tell you RTFM...(if you have time to lose)

You don't have to delete the profile first, but I agree with your other points!
