The clock ticks and I'm pretty mad now.

I've now been waiting 11 months for my Noctilux to arrive. I did not order it with the 30% off scheme. Has anyone else been waiting this long for one? Have you all got your discounted Noctiluxs?

It may be the sad fact that I live in Australasia and we're a poorly represented bunch but, even so, this is totally crazy.

Haven't you heard?.......They had to pull the only guy in Midland (Canada) who can still make these out of semi retirement to manufacture all the Noctiluxes for the 30% off buyers.

They have obviously worked him to the bone given the volume. Leica I hear are not accepting any new orders for this lens and it's quietly being discontinued. You may be better waiting until the reported Asph version materialises and then make your choice of new or 2nd hand original.

Sorry I haven't any good news for you, perhaps Leica need to clarify your situation with your dealer and see if they will honor your order and when. In the mean time I can whole heartedly recommend the 50 Summilux Asph over the Noctilux, a much better lens in every respect apart from the ability of f:/1.0 which at the best of times you'll close down a tad anyway. YMMV

Eoin, are you kidding about pulling the guy from retirement? I know Leica UK has only one person in the service department which shuts down if he catches man-flu or dares to go on vacation.

TBH, I think there are better ways to spend this sort of money, like a Nikon D3, for example.

The longer the wait, the sooner it should arrive.

For the 30% discount you could have picked it up in Solms :-) by now kicking somebody's behind.

Mark,

Perhaps a bit of internet folklore, I read somewhere that that was the case or someone wrote what they were told, I don't recall exactly. But at the rate they came out of Midland to Solms it sure looked like it. LOL

I have been reliably informed by another who tried to order the lens, was told it's no longer being supplied.

Leica are currently trying to get my Noctilux right at the fourth attempt (including their first effort when the lens was made) and all this work (at their expense) must be costing them a fortune. Whatever the merits of the lens, it's a non starter commercially and I can quite understand if it has been killed off. I just wish Leica were a little more explicit about what is current and what is not. If you believe the web-site, the 75mm Summilux is still current as well, as is the 90mm Elmarit and the 50mm Elmarit, yet all these are rumoured to go. The only lens they did pull from the site was the Tri-Elmar.

the only guy in Midland (Canada) who can still make these

Why is this the case? What part of fabrication means anyone cant make them, or at least any of the other people employed in assembly of lenses?

Does it just reflect the volume of lenses they are churning out at the moment and it is all hands on deck?

I knew I was in for a wait when I ordered the lens and I quite expected it to be six months, but a year? This is pretty much a once in a lifetime kind of purchase for me so waiting is more frustrating than anything. It could turn out to be a unicorn judging by the previous posts! The Summilux ASPH is certainly a brilliant lens but I would appreciate the extra stop seeing as I already have a current Summicron. If I have no further word by Christmas I'll cancel my order and keep my money. Perhaps it's not meant to be.

Jaap, the risk you run is that after all this time, you'll end up being disappointed with the lens; it's hugely expensive and a bit of a one trick pony. If at all possible, you should try one and see how you get on.

As for whether it's meant to be, Guy Mancuso ordered one with his 30%, the order was delayed and the offer expired. He could have pulled a few strings but chose not to. Read into that what you will.

Thanks, Mark. I think I'll wait my turn like everyone else. My lens will arrive for the holiday season or it's not meant to be. We'll call it fate!
