Hello there,

I have a question which I'm sure there is an answer to, but that I can't find any satisfying answers to.
I come from Sony and their raw files, and when I import them into Lightroom, the profile that I shot the raw file in follows the image into the develop tab. One of my favorite workflows is to work from the point on which I shot the photo, and not from a flat and colorless DNG-file.

Now, with the Q3, I can't seem to find a similar workflow, as the DNGs coming from the camera and into the develop tab in Lightroom gets ripped from any profile and I'm not able to find that anywhere in LR or download anything that is even close to what I shot in camera.

I know that Sonys have this, Nikons have this and Canons have this, and I've seen other photographers edit their photos in LR with much more color in their photos even from scratch.

For info I use Adobe color preset and every other video I've seen out there is the same profile.

Please help me, or at least come with an in-depth answer if this issue is non-resolvable.

Thanks guys.

What do you mean by profiles on raw? Raw has no profiles. That is the whole point of raw, maximum and unaltered data. If you want to see the JPG, which is probably what you mean, you must set the camera to DNG+JPG fine and import both files into Lightroom.
To use  profiles for raw conversion, both Adobe’s and your own, you must use DNG and you can find a long list of conversion files in the develop module.
If they are not there you have set the camera to JPG only.

Hi,

The profile that the camera is using when the photo is taken is encoded in the Raw file (DNG in the case of the Q3). However only a few camera makes are supported by Lightroom when the Raw files are decoded. Unfortunately Leica embedded profile information is not one of the makes that is supported, so what you will see by default will be the "Adobe Standard v2" profile that Adobe provides for the Q3.

However, with Fuji, for example, Adobe provides profiles that mimic all of the Fuji camera styles. So Lightroom reads the intended profile e.g. "Velvia" from the Raw file metadata and then applies its own version of that profile to the Raw image when it decodes it.

If you look at the Q3 metadata in the DNG files, you will see a field that says what "Leica Look" was set in the camera (e.g, STD or Contemporary) but Lightroom does not honour that field and just displays its standard profile for the Q3.

why oh why on a £6K camera haven't they worked with the main software developers to get this sort of stuff sorted....

I’m glad I get to decide and not some software developer who doesn’t know my preferences. If you like preprepared microwaveable meals then shoot Leica Looks and jpg.

This is really disappointing. Just imported from my wife's Q3 and ended up here.  Yes, you can make your own, but why oh why on a £6K camera haven't they worked with the main software developers to get this sort of stuff sorted.....

Complain to Adobe, not Leica.

As I posted above, the DNGs contain a tag for the Leica Look, but it's not honoured by Adobe. I guess it's all to do with money. Canon, Nikon, Fuji make up the bulk of Adobe customers, and If Leica owners were to drop Lightroom en masse, I doubt Adobe would notice it.

Just be grateful that Adobe provides great support for Leica Digital Crop and Perspective.
