Advertisement Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Hi Olaf_ZG, Take a look here Portrait lenses on L-mount. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Olaf_ZG Posted December 4, 2024 Share #82  Posted December 4, 2024 I am still a bit indecisive for my second portrait lens. I could buy a second hand APO, either 75 or 90. Having the 21 and the Q43 this range makes a nice addition for short weekend trips when I don’t want to take the zooms. However, I could also buy the 85/1.4 for portraits and add the pana 100 macro for travel. I guess the 100 will be actually the best fit for a compact setup: 21 / 100 on the SL and a Q43. For my style of portraits, I have the lux, and also the 24-90 if more reach is needed. May be I should just do the 100…
Biotar Posted December 4, 2024 Share #83 Â Posted December 4, 2024 The SL primes and the 24-90 are too heavy for traveling. Get the Panasonic 80 for the 21. ... then you will finally sell the 24-

If I go for Panasonic, I would rather hace the macro than the  85/1.8 The Panasonic 100mm macro is very smal & light-weight; it focuses fast, the rendering is excellent, the colour neutral & the cost agreeable (certainly compared to Leica). What not to like...? Perhaps that lens feels somewhat plastic in the hand compared to Leica's offerings, but this doesn't bother me. For pure macro work, Sigma 105mm macro is increadibly sharp. But the AF is pedestrian slow; so this is in effect a manual focus lens (plus being larger + heavier than the Panasonic 100mm). 1

May be I should just do the 100… I have the 21 APO SL, Q3 43 and 75 APO SL (also the 35 APO, but I haven't used it much since getting the Q3 43; and the 50 Lux SL). The 75 is a special lens. Every time I show people images taken with it they always comment on it. I had the 90 APO SL and sold it. I also had the Panasonic 100 and sent it back. The Panasonic is an excellently sharp lens. For macro it's fantastic. For general shooting I never got any kind of emotional response from the images. Maybe that's the lens, or maybe I don't like the focal length (although I had the Sigma 105 1.4 and images from that lens always impressed me). For me, there's just something about the 75.  That being said, the 75mm crop on the Q3 43 is very good. So if it's more about reach than rendering, the 90 may work well for you. 75 APO is my desert island lens. FWIW, the 21 is an incredible lens as well, so I already know you have a great kit. In fact, it may be the perfect two body travel carry. If only there was a smaller body to use with the 21 it would be perfect. agfa100 Posted December 6, 2024 Share #87 Â Posted December 6, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) For years I used the 90 summicron, but after using a Ricoh GXR aps-c camera with my 50 Summilux I really liked the 75mm image I got with it. Now I have 4 75mm lenses. The first one was a 75mm f 2.5, then I picked up a 75 Noctilux, then a 75mm f 2.0 and now the new copy of the 75mm Biotar from TT Artisans. The f 2.0 and the cheap Biotar copy are the ones getting the most action this season.
Olaf_ZG Posted January 19 Share #88  Posted January 19 Those reading this threads, and some others regarding the SL lux, know that I was doubting to add the 85/1.4. Finally in December I bought it, but only last week I used it on a portrait session. During the session, I used both the lux and the sigma. On the SL2, with one strobe only. Backgrounds where changed in real life, not in post. Both taken on 1.4 The lux has the dark background, the sigma the yellowish/brownish one. Have a good look at the rendering of his clothes: at his rightarm, left shoulder and the right side of his collar. May be the sigma should have been taken on 2.0 to make it a fair comparison, but I bought it for 1.4. If I stop down, I can use the 24-90. To me the lux looks so much better. And based on those results I have a buyer’s remorse, cause I guess I won’t be using the 85. I will give it some more tries though. below the sigma, next post the lux. Welcome, dear visitor! I just purchased the 50/1.2 DG DN Art lens...Needless to say, I am absolutely floored by the 50/1.2, it excels beyond my wildest expectations! Portraits at f/1.2 are just epic, and by f/2.0 edges on a brick wall test are as sharp as the centre.... Were they to introduce an updated 105/1.4 in L-mount, I would not hesitate to buy! What's wrong with present version of 105/1.4??

I started with the Summilux-SL 50 at f/1.4, then took some with the Sigma 85 f/1.4 DG DN at f/1.4, and some more with the same lens at f/5.6. It confirmed my preference for the Sigma as an AF lens for headshots, because it keeps the nose, and ears in better proportion; I'll use the Summilux more for portraits where I want to be further back. All on the SL2-S. His preference (out of a choice of 153!) was for this third one, rightly in my view, though not just because of the lens. Summilux-SL 50 Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members!  Sigma 85 @f/1.4  Sigma 85 @ f/5.6 Great images - all 3 of them! And I do understand he went with the image 3 - I would have probably done the same - but there is something magical about image nr. 2 - I just keep looking at it...

It's also completely gigantic. I would imagine an updated version would still be big, just less big - at least judging from some of their newer DG DN lenses that replaced the previous versions.
