Jskywalker Posted June 22, 2024 Share #1 Posted June 22, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I’m a JPEG shooter. Currently, I set the max ISO to 6400 and JPEG to Large. Is it true that if JPEG is set to lower size, the noise will be greatly reduced? Is this the reason the Q is less noisy at 6400 compared to Q2 ? Advertisement Posted June 22, 2024 Posted June 22, 2024 Hi Jskywalker, Take a look here Leica Q2 Max ISO and JPEG size. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

If you look at 100% view (pixel peeping), you will see less noise with lower resolution. If you reduce the image size of Q2 to the resolution of Q, there should be no difference in the noise. We generally say that the noise between Q and Q2 is the same because comparing the same size is meaningful. You can reduce the JPEG size in the post and get the same noise as when shooting in lower-size JPEG. Edited June 23, 2024 by SrMi

If you’re shooting jpeg because you don’t want to do anything at all in post, those settings work well (I use them too when I think I’ll need to quickly show someone a jpeg). If you do a bit of post processing, I’ve found Topaz PhotoAI to be excellent at reducing noise.
