So I was blessed enough to take home the Leica D Lux 8 for a few days while in Switzerland.  Don’t want to spoil it…but I did like it over the DL7
This is a two part video:

Part II: LEICA D LUX 8 Review: 2000 Shots Later

I’ll be following up if you want with download DNGs if you guys want to explore them.

Very helpful. Thank you! I have a DL-109 and it's now quite creaky. But it's a very versatile camera and I love using it, but I think this video pushes me over into replacing my 109 with a DL-8.

You are welcome. Glad you found it helpful.

Why the pictures are not as sharp and vivid as the old Dlux 7 and even Vlux 5?

Did you download and look at DNGs? The images look fine to me.

What exactly is your point? If you think it is perfectly sharp and vivid, I respect your standard.

My point is that we should not judge an image from a YouTube video but from a JPEG or DNG.

are there somewhere some DNG files do download?

Yes. Look at Gaston's latest YouTube video (Leica D Lux 8: What it is, What is NOT! + DNG Download!), or go to Gaston's Instagram page to find the link to DNGs.

I suggest SrMi and OP to check out the pictures in the thread "Post your Dlux 7 pictures" or any other cameras. We all know how small the file is required to post the pictures in Leica Forum.

I also suggest OP to review his camera setting or PS setting. Believe me, Dlux 8 can do much better.

Must admit I'm not overwhelmed by those DNGs, which are not as good as what I used to get from LX100ii raw files.  That said, the majority were taken wide open, even when the circumstances didn't require that (and in some cases a different aperture should actively have been chosen).  The series does not really show what the lens can do at its sweet spot of around f4.

It certainly does show some corner and edge softness wide open at longer lengths, but that's to be expected.  The series is a good indication of noise performance (about what you'd expect from a previous generation m43 sensor but cleans up so even ISO6400 is still very usable as long as you're not a determined pixel peeper), dynamic range (actually quite decent) and of (unremarkable) bokeh and background blur with the aperture wide open (often at full tele).

I have a suspicion these images don't perhaps show the camera at its best but then I also suspect most purchasers won't be buying it for ultimate image quality, but rather the improved handling, simplified menus and excellent reworked control system.  The images will be more than good enough for a relatively compact point and shoot and to print at sensible sizes.  And the whole experience will be vastly more pleasurable and tactile than the other main game in town... The Sony RX100 series of bars of soap.
