50mm APO Summicron vs Summilux

So I have both lenses and tried to compare if I can see any differences since APO costs almost double (although I bought used)

 

One with fuzzy effect(?) is APO 50mm

the other is Lux 50mm

 

I still need to test these outside for more but is this normal?

 

both shot with same settings 

 

Now I am very confused if APO really is better lens over Summilux at this point haha

 

both pictures are SOOC

The apo 50 had flaring issues when it was launched. This was remedied by Leica, maybe you have one of the earlier copies. Or maybe you just caught a bad angle and the lens flared, the little twist hood doesn’t offer much protection against stray light.

most of pictures are this way in APO and yes it is the old one (black)

 Did you say you bought APO secondhand, I suspect you got yourself early lemon that exhibited flare as in your second picture.  This problem was rectified but some early specimens may never been repaired under warranty.  From memory problem was lack of blackening of internal lens element rims that caused flaring, it can be fixed but at Leica. 
First, I would check serial number that it is early batch, if so return and ask full refund unless dealer/ seller is prepared to have it fixed. As this is an old problem Leica may be inclined to refuse free of charge fix.

but also its still being sold by Leica. idk why they still selling these if they acknowledged the issues hm..

The flare issue fixed on Summicron 50/2 apo was the so-called CVF (center veiling flare) at f/11 or f/16 if memory serves but the lens is not flare free when shooting into the light. In the OP's case, just using a hand or a hat to make some shade could suffice to fix the issue. As for Summilux, my v3 and asph v1 offer a good flare protection but i never did side by side comparos with the 50/2 so far. In any case, vestigial built-in hoods like those of Summicron and Summilux lenses can do little when shooting into the light this way. If that kind of shooting is important for he OP, i would buy a good hat 😉 or a more flare-free lens like Planar 50/2 or Sonnar 50/1.5 with no guarantee of success anyway.  Another solution could be to use an EVF, this way the OP could see the flare before shooting.

Is this the lens that you did an in-home fix for other problems? Maybe you did not really fix it

Well you go cheap and now get what you paid for.

i told you with almost same price you get a brand new from HK with full Leica international warranty. You go “it must be knockoff”. There you go then.

by the way my 50mm apo you dismissed as “knockoff” is perfect, sharp at all the apertures from corner to corner, no flare at all. I’m happy my “knockoff” is better than your “genuine” “authentic” one. 

so for the same price you live with your second hand genuine copy and I live with my brand new “knockoff”, and we are both happy, what a wonderful life 🤣

Leica fixed this in later batches of production, looks like you got an early copy that was not sent to Leica for repair. Leica painted the insides of the lens with black paint to solve the issue. 

My first copy had this issue, I sent it back to Leica and waited till the second batch was produced. I still have my second copy and it doesn’t flare.
