Is it possible to use either the continuous or interval shooting modes to recording images in a buffer after a half press and before a full press of the shutter button?  Some of the Nikon cameras offer this capability as part of the electronic shutter capability.   Such a capability is not described in the SL3 manual but the capability may be there even if not mentioned explicitly.

No. Pre-capture is not available on the SL cameras.

Nikons only do this for jpegs and require the use of Capture NX to get at the files. The best implementation is Olympus, which does this in camera and with normal raw files. You could also try the Panasonic S5II for an L mount option. Sony does raw pre-capture but not in camera.

Due to the readout speed of the SL3 sensor it’s unlikely this function would be added to the camera.

Panasonic is a leader in that field. You'll find it on the G9ii, S5ii, and maybe the S9 (I can't remember, but I think that one of the reviews I saw mentioned it).
