^^ the more i think about this the more sense it's making to me.

it's a very personal decision, ymmv

the way i shoot... i think i can get away with an m11, and probably would prefer it.

regardless of the different limits of the monochrom

we'll see what happens

I'm going thru this same mental exercise.

I've been using a Q2 for about 3 years, and love it.

So much so that I just got an M10M

and i still have my previous fuji XT3 kit

I really don't like traveling with multiple bodies. Lenses, fine, although i usually just use one.

I'm really struggling with whether or not I should sell the M10M *and* the Q2 for an M11 (realizing the potential lockup issues, etc)

And rely on the Fuji when I need "automation" which isn't terribly often.  I rely on it as is for "long lens" work, which I do very little of.

But the M10M is pretty special.

But I am also pretty damn happy with the B&W conversions I get from CaptureOne and the Q2

first world problems, i know.  isn't that why we're all here, tho?

The M10R would be a safer option, assuming the M10 Monochrom (same underlying sensor and platform) is acceptable except for B&W limitation.

I’m now in Korea and took two cameras.  The MindShift bag is wonderful and I’ve been using the 21mm with a red filter much of the time.  That was unexpected.  Only one camera out of the bag at one time.  Now, facing constant rain, perhaps for weeks.. glad I have the Monochrome … The MindShift will keep the Monsoon away from the cameras.

just following up...

sold the Q2, actually after a great day of shooting with it :)

but anyway, decided to keep the M10m... i think i'll regret it if i don't.

so going to turn the spoils of the Q2 into a M10 "classic" and go for the double-M thing for now.

another M body will take less space in the bag vs the Q2

and if i need AF etc, it'll be the Fuji gear

so yeah, anyway... bought an m10r today ;) ;);)

Enjoy.  I have same pairing (but use the Monochrom most of the time).  An SL2 covers circumstances where RF doesn’t excel.  I see no need for next gen gear… M11 or SL3 etc… the prior iterations seem a sweet spot.

we'll see where this all goes...

i'll settle down for a bit with this stuff... i can see myself grabbing one or the other for "local" stuff, and maybe bringing both for a big trip... we'll see.

not attracted to the SL stuff, for whatever reason... i have aging fuji gear (xt3) which is sufficient for my automated needs for the time being.  but if i wanted some "hot shit" modern gear, i'd probably lean towards sony even though I don't want to :) :) :)

I recently moved from M10-P and M10-M to a M11-P. Was not going to make the jump, but then I tried one in Heidelberg last month, and I was sold. That trip was definitely a "one lens, one camera" trip. I took M10-P with the MATE and it was amazing!!! I had previously taken the M10M with me to travel, but didn't really use it as much as I thought.  On return home, I sourced a lightly used M 11-P and took a good look at my library and how much I had used the monochrom.  I sold the M10M last week, I doubt I'll look back.  I've had the original Monochrom as well as the M10- versions. Both amazing cameras, just never get the use that my P versions get and I know, especially with the M11-P that I can convert to B&W without much issue. I don't think I'll miss the monochrom gathering dust. I know I'll be all over the M11-P, I already am. I'm keeping my M10-P Safari for sentimental reasons...I bought it at Wetzlar.

The cigar plucked out of Churchill’s mouth led to one of the more memorable photographs in history.

"I said, 'Forgive me, sir,' and plucked the cigar out of his mouth. By the time I got back to my camera, he looked so belligerent he could have devoured me. It was at that instant that I took the photograph. The silence was deafening."

The dialogue between the pair of them which 'bookended' that comment is also very noteworthy but perhaps we're in danger of going a wee bit off-topic?......😸......

Sorry Pippy, still off subject...........but Jeff's post reminds me of one of my first camera assistant jobs starting work in London way back in the mid' 60's, I worked in the studio with Yousuf Karsh as a junior junior dog's-body on a couple of his then London portrait sessions, ( Peter Hall I think being one of them )..........The pressure of being a novice loading / unloading the stack of 8x10 dark slides properly was intense............He seemed to use every tungsten light we had so dancing around tweaking everything was nerve racking too.

I take M-M (later type and M-D 262 ... plus a few lenses (21/28/35/50/75)

That said I just recently got  a Hasselblad X1Dii for colour work... so I am now seriously temped to sell the M-D 262 and re-invest in an M10M (my M-M has CCD ID 53 sensor which is problem free but who knows what the future holds)

I am on the fence with a M11M. Currently using M11 and most the time, my style of shooting is in black and white. If I were to go all monochrom on M, I will have to rely on my Ricoh GR for color work, you know, those shot to document family during traveling.

I have the Q2 and Q2M and use both as needs dictate. When I travel, I only carry one camera, the Q2. Makes life simpler and I can convert the color to b&w if needed. I also tend to enjoy traveling more with a one camera setup.
