I have both these! And the summicron-m 35 f2 asph v1 But I'm looking to sell the zeiss, which is probably the "best" of the trio. But not by a huge margin. Advertisement Posted October 17, 2024 Posted October 17, 2024 Hi Leicaboy Norway, Take a look here I'm obsessed with the 50 Summilux ASPH bokeh at wide open. What 35 might give me something similar?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

I just checked the B&H website and they have the 35 APO in stock, as does Camera West. I about fell over. Is the 35 APO drought finally over? Yes, it's in stock in many places in the U.S. – B&H, Leica USA, Camera West, etc. B&H even has two used ones.

Speaking only for myself, I have not yet outgrown wanting to see a relatively smooth out-of-focus background, and doubt that I will do so. I liked a smooth background before I learned about this “bokeh” thing. During my SLR/DSLR days, the Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L had some of what I liked, but, especially in some conditions, the background would be a mess. After I accidentally dropped that lens, which was as long ago as 2011 or 2012, I did not replace it, but did start a patient quest to find a 50mm lens that would more reliably render a nicely smooth background. (I had several SLR telephoto lenses that rendered decent bokeh.) Images captured by the Summilux-M 50mm ASPH, that I found on-line, captured my attention. After I retired, in early 2018, I found a pre-owned Summilux-M 50mm ASPH at a nearby Leica dealer. I was patiently coached by employees, during multiple visits, while I confirmed that I really liked the lens, and made sure that I liked using a rangefinder to focus, before I bought this Summilux ASPH, and a new M10. I do not always shoot wide-open, so, bokeh is not always a factor. When simply out and about, I usually shoot stopped-down to f/5.6 or f/8. Indeed, a reason I originally chose the Summilux-M 50mm ASPH is because it performs well stopped-down, as well as wide-open, showing different character at each end of the aperture range.
